V-1 Install on '11 E- Class with pics

Okay - so just got done with the install...pretty pleased with the exception of a cracked side dashboard panel retention clip...still holds, but it will bother me and I will have to replace it...can't see it but I know it is there.

Using the standard straight cord that came with the V-1...I think it was about 6 ft...and black to match the headliner/interior.

Gently pull off the MBrace housing:

Carefully thread the wire through leaving about 4-5 inches of slack to the driver's side of the rearview mirror.

Gently begin tucking the wire in between the headliner and the windshield until you get to the corner where it meets the A-Pillar.

You then need to get the wire thru the corner and down along the a pillar...it is tough but take your time and don't pull the wire too hard or you'll break it...also need to be careful of the airbag tucked up in there.

You'll need to remove the side dashboard panel GENTLY - the clips break very EASILY I SAID GENTLY...- NOTE to SELF order new side dash panel....

Once you get past this step you are home free...get some electrical tape to cover the sharp edge of the metal dashboard frame (note BLUE electrical tape)...You need to thread the wire thru a hole just behind this and slightly close the glove box door to get it thru...

Connect your V-1 and plug in to socket...connect at the other end, replace all panels and adjust all weather stripping and you are ready to roll with some radar/laser protection in place.

Good luck boys and girls...hope this helps.

well done and very nice install. thanks for posting. Can;t drive in westchester without these things on.

Let me know if you have distronic and found a way to have K band activated on the V1 also. I have distronic and completely disabled K band detection on the V1 to avoid a constant alarm.

Thanks...No I special ordered to delete the Distronic/Driver Assistance Package once I realized it would make the V-1 useless. I wonder if the guys at V-1 can do anything about it - you'd have to figure that they can reprogram the full-logic mode to exclude that - may have to pay for an update, but it might be worth it.

Haven't looked too much into them, not sure how effective they are...I guess you'll know after th efirst time you know you've been tagged and you don't get pulled over...I'd suspect that if the receiver on the LIDAR gun is as sensitive to interference as the receiver on my V-1 that they may actually work...also depends on how big a spread it can send - usually cops are aiming for license plate...I was out on my bike the other day and cop was standing in the middle of the left lane with 3 cars running chase, pulling people over as he radioed over the info...either I wasn't going fast enough or they just figured they'd never catch me, but that was a close call. In the car I'd be dead in the water.

I hear they work well but also very expensive for a good one. I think a k40 is a few grand installed.

Nice work Johnny.
I have a question though...
When i saw your post, I was expecting that the power source would come from the rear view mirror power source behind the MBrace Housing. Is the power source behind the MBrace housing insufficient?

thanks

Nice work, I have a question for anybody that might know. I have a 2007 E-350 (w211) and I received the offer to activate Mbrace for 299.00 one time fee as long as I own the car. Seems like a good deal? However I have installed a mObridge Ipod BT unit and I am thinking of replacing the head unit with a Kenwood (yes I understand what that means). I am wondering if Mbrace is dependent on the head unit in any way. I dont want to wast $299.00 if I replace the head unit?

Thanks,

the power from the mBrace probably would've worked fine, but there isn't enough room in the housing for the hard wire adapter plug...it about 1" by 1.25"by 2". Hardly enough room up there to add the wire taps, let alone the unit plus phone cord. Besides - not something I'd want to clip the wire on after it was activated...cops may show up at my house thinking I was in a wreck. Also guessing that the mBrace is constant 12v and the glove box cig lighter is on ignition which is preferable for radar detector usage.

As for your other question on the mbrace being dependent on the head unit - I'm not sure...someone on here probably knows the answer though...if you don't get one here start a new thread.

They are highly effective if properly installed and tested. The K40 is a POS with horrible protection and little to no customer service. Installer like they because they only cost $750 to them and they can pick up $2000-2500 on the package sell / install. If you are serious about protection look into Laser Interceptor's. hands down the best product on the market with regular updates for new guns / threats. Cliff the owner also drives a C63!

Again, proper set-up and testing is critical to any type of jammer.
