opinions please

Well of course you do what you like, but in my experience it seems that to those who don't know what AMG is (98% of the population) it won't matter either way. To those who do, you look like a wanna be.
Of course if it makes you feel better then by all means go for it

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
This has been covered several times on this forum. Only a full AMG car that leaves the AMG factory gets the badge. It doesn't only include cosmetics it's drivetrain, engine etc. If you open your hood and don't see AMG you shouldn't put the badge on.
BTW: IMO people who put Brabus or Lorinser on their cars because they have a kit or wheels are also a poser. The badge is for people who get their cars fully tuned by them and they put it on for you.

When I got my first E-Class, I too wasn't too versed on the "AMG" badging situation. At the time, the W211's were very rarely without AMG Package, so when I bought my '06 with it, it was a very special option to me. The OG owner bebadged the whole trunk, and when I took it to the Dealer to ask if there was supposed to be an AMG badge back there, he said nope. He also told me about the phonyness, and the "types" of people that ask him to put it on, and even some who had enough class to ask to remove an added AMG badge from their cars' previous owners.
I also get the fact that it doesn't make sense to some. I mean, our cars have just as much AMG body-cladding as the AMG models (front/sides/rear), and on some M-B's, you get both tailpipes with the "AMG" embroided on them, and all 4-wheels as well.... I.e *6* AMG letterings....
Some people have here have argued about my "poserness" by debadging my car now, so I guess everyone has their "line".
It may not be a "poseur" but simply all smoke and mirrors without substance.

So what your saying is only people with big engines are allowed to mod their cars??? You are on the wrong website brother.
.. You are entitled to your opinion, too bad nobody cares about it.

To you, a car is pointless if it doesn't have HP.
To me, HP is irrelevant right now, as long as it's enough to make the car feel "substantial" enough to me. Clearly I could have bought a Used 911 TT, or whatever, but chose what I got.
Style>Power for me. I don't need an engine to back up a good looking, or tastefully cosmetically enhanced car. What do I need that power for anyway, so I can make it to the next stoplight/gridlock faster than the person next to me?

When I park my car next to an E350/E550 with the badge on the back, I like the look of my car a lot more.
I agree, when I see a debadged car, I automatically think it's the "lowest" version as well. But when it comes to me, I'm not gonna sacrifice what I think looks good, due to those politics. As long as I'm not going the extra length to advertise that I have something that I don't have (i.e tacky/classless/poseur).
Also, let's not forget, in Europe (the HOMELAND for our lovely vehicles), HP doesn't really mean squat, they drive E200's (or whatever they're called) and mod them, etc.
These aren't performance cars. Even the E550, which flies, doesn't fly to win races, it does so to further create that ultimate effortless Luxury vibe.
For the record, I will agree that putting an exhaust on a "weaker" model ruins the integrity of the car, and is pointless. THAT is not a cometic enhancement, and truly tries to give a false impression of performance (while failing, due to the sound it makes).

You didn't strike a nerve, you were acting smug. I have no right posting here since I don't own a W212?

I agree with you, especially when it comes to "Premium" brands. I like the way M-B intended for the car to look. I ALWAYS prefer the "nice" OEM Wheels to any aftermarket wheels (Aftermarket wheels don't do anything for me anymore, for some reason), and the OEM "Premium" body-kits are always my favorites as well.
However, I do always think a bit of "cleaning up" is needed. Which is usually where my mod interests lie, they're usually cheap, and simple, as I like to buy a nice car.... well, nice in its original state.
For the 212, I think my "itch" to look into mods further than I did with my W211, is due to the "all equipped the same" 212's. I don't mind having a few personalizations here or there.
....Which is interesting, as ironically, it's the rear of my car that I can never mistake for (most) anyone elses. The already beautiful front of this car is done so well, with the AMG Pack, I keep trying to find some little tweak I can give it. I do feel like any changes would just take away from the look now, however.
Originally, I thought getting P2 would at least differentiate mine a bit due to the LED's. Not happening now.
Put an AMG badge on a 350...now that would be just plain wrong... I personally like the clean look and have no problem
with the integrity of someone who does likewise.
Interesting topic...everyone is entitled to their opinion. Fact remains most of us are here (in the forums) because of our passion for our vehicles. All good.

Nay!
