2011 E-350
I previously posted to this thread, post #170. I originally ordered the star grill from another MB Accessories place (123 Mercedes.Com) and it was junk. It came with three dents in the chrome, one end of the top chrome piece was not fastened properly and flapping loosely and the star chrome was loose, about to fall off. It was $230. I returned it and ordered the 55 Tech grill for $259. It is light years over the first one in quality and fit. Actually the 55 Tech grill is about as good as the original. Is is also much better looking than the factory star grill in the "C" and "E" coupes. That grill on my dark metallic Capri blue, coupled with the chrome version of the factory AMG sport wheels actually gave my "E" a complete different personality. I have also enhanced it with a sandstone pin stripe, chrome behind the door handles and AMG pedals. However, the grill remains the biggest asset to enhancing the car's personality! I realize some of you guys are more conservative and keeping things original, however, I am all about creating my own version of a vehicle. I have done that with every vehicle I have owned since I was a teenager...I am now 65 and just traded a Hummer H3 on my E350. Most folks said it looked like a "Pimp Mobile." Actually, it was just a good looking show vehicle.

I don't think that keeping the OEM grille is about being "conservative" or "unique" (since the Star grille is the corporate face on every M-B anyway), rather a style choice. Which is a "to each their own" on its own anyway.

The grille looks nice,,,sort of takes away the notion of an "E" class and puts a sporty look to it,,good luck

+1.....especially when it's like this
but I am getting rid of this one and putting the stock grill back on next week, it'll be gloss black, still lending more sportness I think.....

For some reason, I'm really liking this "CL" style grill....a bit more aggressive looking...

I don't know why these aftermarket venders insist on the old style of numerous slats, making for a cluttered chrome heavy look. I wonder if someone could properly proportion a Star grille with the newer (and actually throwback/Classic as well) style of just 1-2 slats and no border.

True that.

Tip to vendors: Try and design a 1-Slat/no border grille for the W212, as it would be in line with the current M-B design idiom, and would surely bring you more $$$$. The multi slat with all the chrome borders Star grille is very 90's M-B.

At the same time, I just know that the W212's grille is proportioned so properly for the Luxury Grille, and so not properly for the Star grille, that it would probably be impossible to make a 1-2 slat/no border Star grill look in any way proper.... The W212 mouth is just way too tall (hence the luxury/stately proportioned front end).

I have a black 2011 E350. I am looking to paint the stock grill. Any of you guys who have changed to the big logo grill looking to sell your stock grill let me know. I just cant decide what I like better. Thanks John

Hey, I have so many parts for your w212. I gave the car to my wife and got a s class so I have tons of badass parts left over for cheap. I have NAV TV video in motion module. You can watch dvd while driving. New star front grill. Looks super clean like the e class coupe. I have complete Wald Black bison kit. Pics are under name so you can check it out. I'll cut you good deals if you're interested. My number is 504 236 3794 Mike

I got a Iridium Silver w212...below is the Chrome/Iridium Silver star grill...starting to feel this cuz of the matching paint on the slats. Not feeling the silver mesh in the backside though....will probably paint the mesh black.

Any opinions? Go with this silver slat or stick with the black slat for my Iridium Silver w212?

At least paint the mesh black. It looks too busy/cluttered/overwhelming right now IMO. Maybe paint the border silver, to clean up that real chrome bonanza up there.

No need to paint mesh silver - they have it with black mesh as well, but only with black slats.

If you have Pano - go with black for sure; if not - does not realy matter, but black would match oem lower black grill better plus would give a nice contrast to otherwise all silver front.

From canada. If I lease the new 2012 car and get this modified, can i still return it at the end of lease with the original part. According to the dealer as long as there is absolutely no cosmetic damage to the grill or hood, they're fine with it.
If i end up doing this change, can i get it back to exactly the factory condition at the end of my lease?

Changing the grille takes about 10 minutes (after learned how to do it). Need to have one 10 mm socket wrench.

Changing the "stand up" star to a badge takes less than a minute.

Each can be reversed back to original with no issues just as easily as modification is done.
