***My Brand New 2011 W212 and Star Grille***
The other day I asked my MB dealer and he quoted me a star grille (NS 88-1028) for $561+taxes. I don't know how that grille looks like, if it looks like the ebay one or if it looks like the Coupe one. However it is pretty certain this is a plastic grille painted chrome (like the one on ebay).
When I look at the Coupe grille I really prefer it (see photo). I am wondering if that grille fits the Sedan and if the quote I got was from the Coupe one. I will need to investigate. In the meanwhile, I think I prefer the Coupe look much more than the ebay look, Coupe look seems more modern.
Any feedback? Thanks.[/QUOTE
Is there an OEM star grill for the non coupe?
I am thinking about carbon fiber mirror covers for a steel gray.......thoughts?
). I'm obviously not big on the star grille on the Sedan, but the one you went with looks pretty clean to me, especially VS some of the others I've seen. One issue I have with them, is the gap on the bottom, and enhanced gap on the top (which also wouldn't come from an OEM unit).
FTB
BTW this is the most unique I have seen for a black car, bought one but as I said in another thread I'm really liking my stock grill with the star on the hood.

That is how mine came too. The star was in MB box with MB parts number. It is original MB star.
The grille is not from MB.

You might need to talk with your parts dealer about that star grille a bit more. I understand that MB does not make a star grille for W212 sedan. They have it only for the coupe, which by my understanding does not fit. It is way smaller than what sedan takes.
I was also told by my dealer that the E350 coupe is made of C-class, like E63 is. It is much smaller car.

), but the E63 Sedan is obviously a W212 E-Class.
Your conversion looks terrific....I want to do the same. The Ebay source is no longer listed. By chance, you have an address available?
Thanks, Don
The fit was not perfect as at the bottom of the grille the gap to bumper is just slightly bigger than at edges. I would say 2 mm wider.
You can judge yourself in the cicture I posted. I think it looks awsome and cannot even see that gap difference if you don't go look for it.
Quality seems ok. Of course, time will tell if chrome / paint will flake off ower time and how fast.
Another thing is the star mounting in the middle. The black center cylinder and star mount with plastic pins that don't hold it very tight. I used 2-component epoxy and glued the pins from inside, which made it feel solid.
Do not order the badge from 55Tech site. It is far too big in diameter. It does not fit in the mounting depression on the hood. I bought dfwdude badge, which fits perfectly and looks very good. Go see his sticky posts.
Arrie, can you give the link to a badge that fits the depression? Thanks.

Search for 1994-2000 Mercedes Benz C280 45mm Front Hood Emblems. It looks stock and has a great fit.
I'll post pictures later this weekend with my new 55tech Grill.

Hey guys, I have been on this forum for a couple months. I purchased my new 2011 E350 Sport Sedan on September 13th. It is my 8th MB since 1981. I recently used the core exchange with California Chrome to replace my optional AMG wheels with the chrome version. I also added the 55 Tech Grill, AMG pedals, and chrome behind the door handles. I am now or have been on Corvette, Hummer and Silverado forums...This is one of the BEST!

The badge is 1994-2000 Mercedes Benz C280 45mm Front Hood Emblem that I found on Amazon. It fits like is was installed from the factory.
Confession: I changed out the grill four times because I could not decide if I liked it or not. It finally grew on me.
The ship quickly and take pay-pal....
