[QUOTE=mbfoup;4328547]All right. I am totally unsure about the grille. I have seen the one from (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2010-...cessories#shId) here but I am wondering if there could be nicer options.

The other day I asked my MB dealer and he quoted me a star grille (NS 88-1028) for $561+taxes. I don't know how that grille looks like, if it looks like the ebay one or if it looks like the Coupe one. However it is pretty certain this is a plastic grille painted chrome (like the one on ebay).

When I look at the Coupe grille I really prefer it (see photo). I am wondering if that grille fits the Sedan and if the quote I got was from the Coupe one. I will need to investigate. In the meanwhile, I think I prefer the Coupe look much more than the ebay look, Coupe look seems more modern.

Any feedback? Thanks.[/QUOTE

Is there an OEM star grill for the non coupe?

My star grill that I bought off Ebay came in all Mercedes Benz packaging so I assume its OEM, but less than half the price you got quoted from the dealer.

I definitely don't think the grille is OEM Philly, as M-B doesn't make a star grille that fits the W212 E-Class. They must have just used M-B logo's, etc. on their packaging (I'd think some legal issues would come from that? ). I'm obviously not big on the star grille on the Sedan, but the one you went with looks pretty clean to me, especially VS some of the others I've seen. One issue I have with them, is the gap on the bottom, and enhanced gap on the top (which also wouldn't come from an OEM unit).

He guys the STAR comes in MB box and it is OEM, but the grille is not.

FTB

BTW this is the most unique I have seen for a black car, bought one but as I said in another thread I'm really liking my stock grill with the star on the hood.

That is how mine came too. The star was in MB box with MB parts number. It is original MB star.

The grille is not from MB.

You might need to talk with your parts dealer about that star grille a bit more. I understand that MB does not make a star grille for W212 sedan. They have it only for the coupe, which by my understanding does not fit. It is way smaller than what sedan takes.

I was also told by my dealer that the E350 coupe is made of C-class, like E63 is. It is much smaller car.

The Coupe is indeed a C-Class (with an "E" badge and price ), but the E63 Sedan is obviously a W212 E-Class.

Hi A-18,

Your conversion looks terrific....I want to do the same. The Ebay source is no longer listed. By chance, you have an address available?

Thanks, Don

The fit was not perfect as at the bottom of the grille the gap to bumper is just slightly bigger than at edges. I would say 2 mm wider.

You can judge yourself in the cicture I posted. I think it looks awsome and cannot even see that gap difference if you don't go look for it.

Quality seems ok. Of course, time will tell if chrome / paint will flake off ower time and how fast.

Another thing is the star mounting in the middle. The black center cylinder and star mount with plastic pins that don't hold it very tight. I used 2-component epoxy and glued the pins from inside, which made it feel solid.

Do not order the badge from 55Tech site. It is far too big in diameter. It does not fit in the mounting depression on the hood. I bought dfwdude badge, which fits perfectly and looks very good. Go see his sticky posts.

Arrie, can you give the link to a badge that fits the depression? Thanks.

I bought mine from "dfwdude" who used to post on this forum. I have not seen his posts lately so I don't even know if he still does them.

I dont think this really mesh's well with the E-Class, maybe an older E or S class, but IMO, not the W212...

45MM Hood Badge

I found a hood badge on amazon.com the fits the W212...

Search for 1994-2000 Mercedes Benz C280 45mm Front Hood Emblems. It looks stock and has a great fit.

I'll post pictures later this weekend with my new 55tech Grill.

Got any pics of this grill installed on your vehicle? Looks a bit different...no chrome around the edges to "frame" the entire grill like the stock one.

Hey guys, I have been on this forum for a couple months. I purchased my new 2011 E350 Sport Sedan on September 13th. It is my 8th MB since 1981. I recently used the core exchange with California Chrome to replace my optional AMG wheels with the chrome version. I also added the 55 Tech Grill, AMG pedals, and chrome behind the door handles. I am now or have been on Corvette, Hummer and Silverado forums...This is one of the BEST!

I'm new to the W212 forum and thought I would share my New e350 with the 55tech Grill and 45mm badge from amazon. I wanted the coupe for it's sporty look but wanted the room of the Sedan. The new grill gives me both!

The badge is 1994-2000 Mercedes Benz C280 45mm Front Hood Emblem that I found on Amazon. It fits like is was installed from the factory.

Confession: I changed out the grill four times because I could not decide if I liked it or not. It finally grew on me.
