PHONES THAT WORK
I have a new 2011 E350 Sport 4Matic but had to purchase an old model w755 Motorola phone (Verizon) in order to use the Bluetooth feature on my new car. My other phone (LG 8700) didn't work.
If you go to the MB page where they list all the phones that will work in the car, you will find they are all old models and you won't get much help if you call them up.
Maybe some members can list the newer phones that they are using and know work well, including downloading contacts to help out other members looking to purchase phones that will work well in their new E-Class

iPhone 3g and Blackberry 8830. I connected with my wife's Droid X but didn't download contacts. BTW I'm sure your aware the contact count is limited, mine would't take my 1000 plus, had to skinny it down (I don't know the exact limitation).

Phones that Work
My wife's Verizon BlackBerry Bold and my DroidX work just fine...contact download was seamless from the DroidX The one thing that you may want to do though is just sync/download your phone contacts to the car BEFORE you sync up your Google or Facebook contacts...so you don't wind up with too many entries that you wouldn't normally want to have.

iPhone Call lists
The phone in my Comand shows only Received calls and Dialed numbers under the "Call lists". I have an iPhone 3GS.
Is this what others have, i.e. no missed calls listed under call lists?
Missed calls would be very helpful to have under call lists as the phone is in the glove box when you make a stop at a gas station or something. All we travelers know that this is the only time someone you have tried to reach calls you back but you are not in the car to answer it. Now, to know if someone tried to reach you, you need to dig this phone up from the glovebox to see if someone indeed tried to call. Missed calls listed in the Comand would greatly help with this.
My Audi Q7 showed missed calls, wonder why MB does not?

2011 E550 Sport (traded), 2012 SLK 350; 2013 GL450 on order for OCT delivery
Blackberry 8530 Curve works. Also, Nokia E71 works but you have to upload each item in your address book manually (once uploaded they remain there after the phone disconnects); same with the Motorolla EM326.
They key to one transferring data is to check out the Bluetooth specs on the phone. To automatically upload your address book, the phone must have the PBA spec. If it has the OPP spec you can upload manually.
