Getting remote start

dealer is putting remote start into my e550/keyless go Thursday. Cost will be about 1150 or so all in. Will let you know how it goes- but in end I concluded I don't mind parting with some cash for the benefit of a warm car on cold mornings.

I believe the unit going in is the one from mid city engineering which advertises here. I asked about this on another thread here and they directed me to their website which says they work with dealers, including the one I go to. It is expensive although I had guessed it would be more!!

Will this be incorporated into key fob or will you have two?

I am told using the panic button will somehow activate it. In any case, uses existing fob.

That's a lot of cash for the unit, but worth the integration of key fob.

Yes, that would be the only way I would get a remote start is it was integrated into FOB.

Seriously I wonder if it works with Benz keyless go. And I thought the MBRACE app was cool.

Either you have too much money and should give some to everyone in the class (oh, wait... that's for gum) or it's really freakin' cold where you live. I mean seriously cold. I'm talking North Pole cold. Witch's t!t cold!

Enjoy the toy we all wish we had!

OK - car is done and its awesome. Here's the story:

-The unit is the one from mid-city engineering.
-It works perfect and as advertised.
-Uses existing key fob to work (I have keyless go) so same effective operating distance
-One click of the panic button and the car powers up (electronics and lights come on then 5 sec later the engine turns on).
-To drive, just walk up to the car and open the door as normal with keyless go, sit down, press the start button once (pressing anything else shuts off engine as a security feature) and off you go.
-Shuts off after 15 minutes if you dont get into the car.

Took the dealer 2 days to figure it out as this is the first E class they've done. They had done it on a number of S's and apparently the process is different. Not a big deal though as I had a no-extra charge loaner

Apparently - you can also add a module to this that allows the iPhone feature to work which I didn't get.

Had midcity enginerring unit installed on ML 320 CDI. It works perfectly. It is a plug and play system with easy install and no cutting of wires. It is fully integrated into the mercedes computer system.

Stupid Questions:

So did you but the unit from Mid City and take it to the dealer or do they have these in stock?? Does it void any warranty??

Thanks.

If u call mid-city engineering in chicago at 312 421 1114 they will direct u to an installer in your area. The installer closest to me was not a benz dealer but no problems. Should not void any warranty as it is a plug and play system that can easily be turned off or even unplugged.

To answer questions-
-Not sure if there is a way for panic alarm to work any more. I'll check the instructions
-You just press the panic button once just as you would press the unlock button. This is a huge improvement from the one in my MDX where I need to press lock 3 times in just the right timing or it doesnt work, and I then need to use the actual key (imagine the horror) to unlock the drivers door.
-Correct - range is same as FOB
-Didn't order from mid-city - although when I filled out their online form (after being directed there from another forum here) they directed me to my own dealer.
-Warranty not voided

that's cool, but it seems like one press could turn the car on whenever, or by accident...
my truck fob you have to press the button twice, seems like a good idea.........

damn I want one of these

That sounds great. I cant get over the price though. I am sure Mid City would make more money if they sold it for what its worth instead of going for a huge profit. But it is a MB, and to most MB buyers $1150 is nothing, so I dont blame them.

I am concerned slightly about ability to turn the car on by accident. key mitigants to that risk are it shuts off after15 min and I don't park it in my garage.
