I wonder too; I suppose when one parks in big cities? parking garages? I hear these mirrors are popular with the rip and run crowd too......
I myself never considered it a loss, although I have never used them either......

Ever see cars in the parking lot that for some odd reason have only one mirror folded in or out of position? People who walk between cars occasionally bump into them. Power fold mirrors are more of an Asian and European car market thing where parking spaces are typically tighter than in North America.

I had them on my S Classes before and rarely used them but nice to have when i wanted them. I've mentioned this before when I bought my car the dealer must have said this car is 10k less than a BMW 5 series. In order them to reach the price point a few things got left out/off.

Had them on a Hyundai Azera and they were nice, but really didn't use them that often.
It depends on how wide the car and the mirrors are. The Azera was wider and the mirrors were much wider compared to my E350.
Haven't really missed them all things considered.

FTB, I hope you did not give any credence to what that delaer said. I bought a 2011 BMW 535i. MSRP was over $3k less than my E550. A similarly equipped 550i was about the same sticker price as the E550.

I've loved power folding mirrors since I added them to my E46 M3. On the Benz, when programmed through the IC they're a good visual indicator of when the car is locked.

Also, a replacement mirror housing and auto-dimming glass can run over $1k. The folding option means less risk of having the mirror clipped off when parked on a side-street I suppose.

I recently retrofitted them onto my E Coupe for the reasons posted above - E Sedan has them standard (Canada).

I have very narrow garage, so my car didn't fit in unless I fold mirrors.

I'll tell you I never once wished I had them...until about 4 weeks ago. The garage I park in in NYC started folding my pass side in every once in a while which of course I didnt notice till I was merging onto FDR drive (merges into right lane). Fortunately I relied on turning my head and blind spot assist.

Now you might say "well why didn't you check the mirror in the first place" and you'd be absolutely right. But still....good argument for power folding mirrors.

If folding mirrors are standard in Canada wouldnt it be as simple as getting the part # and having a dealership install them? The only difficult part might be the price but it sounds very possible.

You need the parts (left and right mirror frames), the replacement window switch panel (with the power fold button). Install requires removing both door panels, both mirror assemblies, etc. Then the instrument cluster must be coded to get the mirrors to work. Probably $1k in parts plus the labor.

I live on the north side of Chicago with narrow, congested streets. If you're parked on a side street, folding mirrors could make a big difference, especially in areas with lots of double parked cars. Folding mirrors are standard in Europe and Asia where similar conditions exist.
