Question for those who switched their grills to "coupe" or star grills........

Did you have distronic plus and if so, did it interfer with that system?

I think I have decided I want the drivers assistance package with disctronic but I would like to also swap grills and was wondering if anyonw had actually swapped grills with distronic.

Thanks, and I'll hang up and take my answer off the line.

Aren't there like 5 Threads asking this exact question (with answers)? Lol.

I think that it probably can't be done flawlessly, however, a manufacturer might say "Distronic" compatible if it is. It needs to have a black shield around the star (where it would usually be "hollow" with mesh) in order to even be considered compliant. M-B makes star grilles that are distronic compatible on cars that are originally designed for the star grille, but I don't know how much I'd trust an aftermarket grille to be 100% reliable with such a complex and safety-paramount system.

Yes, I agree. I guess I was hoping for a simple. Yes, the grill has nothing to do with it. But it sounds like it really does. Well, I guess I just saved $3,000! I really only wanted it for the pre brake feature.....but even that might not be all they say it is.

What does that plastic plate do anyway? I have been told it collects quite a bit of snow and crud during the winter time.

I think it just protects the radar system, so stuff doesn't get blasted all over it.

I had Distronic 1 in my W220, and it was great. The new Distronic is nothing short of outstanding. It wasn't a major for me, because I don't use CC too much, and wouldn't put it to much use (plus, I kind of think we shouldn't rely on SO many robotic driving methods.... Even the awesome "Hold" feature makes you further-ly useless and irrelevant). Although, I'm driving this car on some long distance trips lately, and it sure would be yet another coddling effect.

Saving $3K is nice, but if money isn't an object in regards to optioning the car with what you want, I wouldn't let a "cheap" aftermarket grille stand in the way. But I'm clearly not a fan of star grilles on M-B's that weren't proportionally design intended for them. I can understand that having a certain "look" you like being paramount over all other.... Even functional things though.

We have adaptive cruise on our other car. Nice feature for long distance driving. T Thanks for your input by the way. I appreciate it.

So sent some messages around and made some calls and it does seem that if you want to swap out your grill, you will loose disctronic.
