Covering my calipers?
Heads: whats good?
help me understand the point of the caliper covers that we see......the red ones.....yellow........orange.......
is this to protect interior parts/for looks?
complications? advantages?
I like the look but am wondering who says what about the other
functions if there are any..........
any comments welcome

Caliper covers are used to make standard brake calipers look like the more expensive big brake kits (Brembo, Stoptech). They serve no useful purpose. You certainly don't want them on a Mercedes.

Hyper, just get them painted. Big brake kits like Wilwood are not worth the money and do absolutely nothing for the car but lighter your wallet.

Caliper Painting
I highly recommend using G2 caliper paint and if you carefully apply the stickers when it is still slightly tacky, they will cure into the paint.

I like the idea of caliper painting - I had done it on my Lexus GS400. As for colors - it's really easy to go overboard and look ricey or poser...Red/Yellow should be reserved for legit Brembo 6 piston calipers, carbon ceramic type brakes. Personally I would look to go black with white or silver decals or silver with black decals.

seems like a white would be good for a white car......
of course we'd never see them, unless driving by a big glass
office building, lol.......
I do love seeing the reflections of my car

Color suggestion
I would do silver with Black decals.
With the excess silver paint you can do the hat portion of the rotors as well, to really get a good uniform look to it.

Tire Rack carries the G2 paint.

I am guessing they need to be removed for painting? duh, I know......
but if they do need to come off....I'd be nervous doing it myself....

I am having a local shop in Cincinnati due the work. I don't trust myself doing it on my own. I would rather have them done right since this is a Benz. So far..I am leaning towards going black w/white amg decals. Would only go red or yellow if they were actual Brembos.

I have read posts on other forums where people have painted their calipers while still on the car. Careful masking and patience. The G2 kit paint is brushed on with a provided brush.

Caliper
I think they sell cheap mold covers for the calilpers. But why bother. There might be issues with cleaning / melting I would assume.
I just had my calipers painted in silver. I had my W211 painted in yellow. The guys that did my mods and painted the calipers added a Brembo decal to my W211. From what the shop said, the stock brakes on the W212 and W211 are oem Brembo.

I'd probably go black if I did it. Yellow or Red are super cheesy on a car like this, especially when it'll be pretty obvious to tell you're not looking at true Brembo's, etc.
Not sure how white would look, should be cool with the right rims on a white car, but the upkeep would be a deal breaker.
I think the stock silver looks clean, and the M-B logo is ideal on it, but I think my main reason for not jumping to do the black is due to having another area to upkeep and wax. As long as the areas in question still look hot to me, I'm all for efficiency of keeping the upkeep on the car as simple as possible.

Front calipers on my 2010 E350 Sport are painted black with Mercedes Benz on the caliper in silver lettering. It is/was part of the Sport package in 2010. I have no knowledge regarding the 2011 models.

Didn't know our cars had Brembo's as standard, so I retract a portion of my previous statement, although I think the yellow/red still would look maybe cheesy on a car like this, unless it's really modded to compliment/work with that look.
Also, our cross-drilled rotors are pretty friggin' nice. Gets some "Whoaaa"'s from some friends, lol.

My W211 w/ the calipers in yellow
My W211 with my yellow BREMBOS! Not too cheesy IMO. Maybe a tad cheese as I got my W212 painted in the factory silver to match the car and left off the decal this time around.

Caliper painting kind of depends on what the rest of the car looks like. I had a fully murdered E55 so going black with silver AMG decal was the way to go. On the SL, I had just a bit of red (the rear tail lights) and the red calipers just made sense in balancing out the red.
On my Suburban, which is white, I upgraded to Brembo 15"/6pot kit and left the calipers Brembo red. If I did the same thing on my E55 (if white), I would probably color match them and have black lettering or go black with white lettering. On the Suburban, since it is so big the red Brembo calipers look right as is while on the E55 they might detract from the rest of the car.
On the SL65, the red calipers seem the right accent to the car since the rest of the car is already intimidating and the red calipers aren't THE center of attention...but that is my opinion.
