Slowly but surely, I am learning all the awesome stuff on this car.

Just today, for the first time ever, I understood exactly how the Adaptive High Beams work. You click it backwards, and it goes in "Auto" (click it forward, and manually hold it, and the highs go automatically on, no adaptive).

So I realized, that they work so well, it's kind of pointless to ever have to use the highs on manual. Do you guys just constantly leave it on the Auto setting, and let the car flip to highs whenever it deems it necessary?

Sweet, I will be too now. This car does everything, it's really spoiling me, seriously. I don't know how I feel about that, it does everything for me practically, which forces (er, allows) me to operate at far less intensity, lol.

I've been driving my Benz on my long distance "work trips" recently, and I used to always drive my Malibu. The Benz has done the unthinkable, it's lifted me from my humble and grounded nature, making it seem "ew" to drive in a Chevy that doesn't have all the lazy luxuries, and extremely cozy ambiance.

I gotta retrain myself back. I don't want to be one of those guys! Lol.

Gotta love the "lazy luxury" ...

We have my E350 in the garage next to the wife's Lexus RX450h and for around town we take the RX but on long trips ... it's always the Benz.

Do you guys worry that the high beams don't turn off in time and you end up high beaming people? I always wondered if I am actually high beaming incoming cars.

I leave them on all the time too. The system is pretty good, you won't accidently high beam oncoming traffic.

K-A, I also have a Nissan for my work drive but I find myself driving the Benz all the time now.

There is another function with the lights too. It adjusts low beams to the distance of the car in front of you or to oncoming traffic. I'm not sure if it does this if the high beam is not on automatic. I have them on automatic at all times too. I really don't see a need for not having it on auto.

I leave mine on all the time as well. As for high beaming others, I've never had an oncoming car flash their lights at me to tell me to turn mine down. It operates very quickly. This is one of those features that I never knew I needed but will likely never be without in the future.

They seem to work perfectly for me, and are very sensitive in reading any lights properly. I used them on an un-lit Highway last night, and it was amazing how well and adaptive they truly are.

Interesting, how do you do that? I take it, the way it comes from the factory, is the "normal" setting, or I wonder if cars have different random settings with the low beam distance thing.

Looks like mine will be staying on "Auto" as well. Another thing that my car will be doing for me, lol.

The Auto high beams is a great feature especially here in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. At night time, there are a lot of deer and other furry little creatures that come out. I leave the high beams set to Auto all the time and yet have had anyone flash me for high beams.

If I recall correctly, the auto feature only works above 45mph. So I do switch between auto and manual cause when I pull into my neighborhood at night I like my highbeams on.

Are you sure about this?

What would be the purpose of this limitation?

I don't think this is true. I live in a sub where speed limit is 30 MPH. Area has street lights and every time I enter on the road to the sub my high beams go off as the system sees those street lights.

I'm assuming MB thought that you don't need as much visual distance when going slow or slower.

Ok I tried it down a dark country road. Here's what it does. When you start the high beams don't turn on till you hit 35mph, I then slowed down to 25 and they turned off and wouldn't turn back on till I hit 35mph again. This was verified 3 times. So on at 35mph and back off at 25 mph.

I'm impressed that you took the time to test this out and report back so quickly.

Well if this was the Honda forum, then I would of waited till I just had to drive it again. Not the case here obviously.

I like this feature but on slow mountain winding roads I would like it on but it turns off below 35 mph or so. Almost perfect but not quite yet. Still much better than doing the switch manually. Great feature I never knew I would need.
