P1 bulb adjustment/replacement?

We all know the headlights on the P1 are mediocre at best. Anyone adjust them up a little to get a little more throw out of them or replace the bulbs only to brighter bulbs? Don't know a reputable shop in Houston to do a quality bi-xenon conversion with OEM parts and not sure I would want to risk future warranty issues(s).

well the replacement bulbs are H7. You can either change them to HID, or even LED H7s. Warranty wise...well that's on your own...LOL~~!

Just put them in, if you feel you're going to have an issue or there is a problem in that area, just have the same guys replace them with the originals.

When u say HID or LED H7 does either require a ballast like bi-xenon or anything special or just a bulb swap? Would assume that a bulb swap could not affect warranty.

Is this the stock H7 bulb or is this an upgrade -

H7SU Silverstar ULTRA for Ultra Night Vision - The Whitest and Brightest Halogen

Anyone have any thoughts on these Phillips HID -

Looks pretty good and I would rather spend some $$$ to get a good product and not have to worry about it.

Thanks!!

Nobody has any thoughts on this kit?? -

Thinking of going with the 4300k (white with a slight hint of yellow) so that it isn't totally different than the stock parking lights.

Standard halogens in P1 package cars is a GE bulb, not a Silverstar. I took mine out and put in PIAA Xtreme White H7s. They are better, but still not as brite as xenons in my ML350. I also adjusted aim to raise beam.

Anyone know about the H7 LEDs? Are they street legal like the LEDs in the Audi A8?

How do you adjust the aim to raise the beam? I also believe my stock P1 halogen bulbs are aimed a little too low and would like to raise them and don't really want to go to dealer for what should be a very simple adjustment. Thanks!

You may not want to wait, but I had mine adjusted upward at no charge when I had "A" service done. Service tech said they were pointed at maximum down angle and they adjusted to max up angle. Definite improvement, but I do not do a lot of night driving and practically none where I can use high beams.

Thanks. I did it yesterday. Super easy. Aimed them up a little bit. Did help some. Still gonna change to PIAA bulbs, 4100k. Have recieved some tips from members on how to change driver side bulb but if anyone else has any, please post them or PM me. That driver side looks like a total PIA.

Can you aim up an HID car the same way you aim up a Halogen car?

MCF, did you take yours to the Dealer?

And lastly, is the "aim" something that M-B determine from the factory, or do cars headlights just come at random aims?

I did mine in my garage. Took 30 seconds. I assume they adjust them all at the factory within tolerances but things happen. Mine were not way off but I like that they are a little higher now. So far nobody flashing their high beams at me.

I agree 100%, the stock bulbs and aim are terrible. How much more throw did you get with adjusting them up? I seem to be limited to ~75 feet of good light at current setting. Can you share what you had to do for the adjustment and any tips you get on the drivers side replacement?

How do you do it exactly? And can it be done with a P2 car?

I wonder how mine are now. They're very bright, but I don't think they point out as far as I'd imagine they would, either. I assumed this would be due to it not blinding people in front of me (if you've ever had a car with beams pointing too high, especially an HID car, behind you, it is an incredible annoyance, angering, and is a safety hazard), or due to the Adaptive Beams keeping the throw in check.

No idea on P2. On P1 there is a hole in the sheet metal near each light when u open the hood. You use an Allen wrench to turn screw to adjust. Don't use a Phillips head (there is a Phillips head screw inside Allen head). Counterclockwise to raise. I did two full turns. Not sure how much it has improved throw. A little maybe. Have no clue how to replace driver side bulb without having to take some brackets off, etc.

Interesting. How were you able to get them to line up perfectly (each side)?

Shined them in my garage door. They were pretty even. Put some painters tape to make top of each beam and adjusted each two full turns CCW. Both moved up equally.

Excellent. Thanks for the how and tip of using only the Allen head. I will make some adjustments this evening and plan to use the painters tape as well.
