Passenger side cargo web thingy?
What the heck is this thing for? I get the cargo net to secure small items from bouncing around, but what is the plastic slide lice on top for. Late and brain is moving slow, but don't know what the heck this thing it and too lazy to go through the OM again looking for it.

WTF, are you reading my mind? I was just thinking the same thing. I was just thinking that they cost cut my eye glass holder from the W211 but they have this stupid useless f-ing web thingy by the passengers feet. Can a brother get a beep instead of a horn when I lock my car intead of this stupid MFPOS.

It is a bottle holder. You open the plastic band and squeeze it on a bottle of some sort of liquid you prefer to drink, or some other bottles too.
Not very practical if you compare it to some other vehicles having bottle holders on doors but for cars, like the W212, how many have bottle holders and where? It is there for a bottle bigger than what fits in the cup holder.

Brilliant.... Simply brilliant. I loose my "chirp" to be replaced by a "honk" on something I use 4-5 times per day and in exchange I get a worthless cargo net bottle holder thingy that may get used a handful of times over the life of the car.

I guess my point was that there were several things that they cut from the W211 that a lot of W211 prior owners miss, and also from the MY10 to MY11. Why wasn’t this one of them? Take this thingy and not the chirp for locking doors. WTF Mercedes?!?
Anyway you guys may try to call it a "bottle holder" but the true name for it is "F.U.T."... F-ing Useless Thingy.

The nice thing about the net is it keeps things firmly in place and against the soft carpet so they won't rattle like in the glove box or console. I use to keep my dial air pressure gauge there in my 06 55.

This coming from a guy that just dropped $12K and lost ~$4000 on a trade from one E to another....hahahaha.

Ahh, wtf are M-B thinking sometimes with this crap that they pull. There just can't be enough complaints about a HONK coming from a BENZ.
Fortunately I "lucked out" with a 2010. I never use that net thingy actually as well, and never even thought about what it might be.
BTW, the W211's "eye glass holder" was more like a "pen holder" to me.

It is worthless to people who do not need it. I have used it and it holds a one liter bottle of water in place nicely. The car does not have any other storage that keeps a bottle of that size in place. There are no bottle holders in anywhere in this car other than the "thingy".
You might think that placing a bottle of somethong on the passenger or back seat works but it doesn't if you are going 150 mph or something like that.

Bottle holder
Warning!
Do not transport heavy, sharp-edged, or
fragile bottles in the bottle holder.
In the event of an accident, the bottle holder
cannot secure a bottle sufficiently. You and/
or vehicle occupants could be injured.
! Make sure that the bottom of the bottle
in the bottle holder touches the floor. The
bottle holder could otherwise be damaged.
The bottle holder is designed to secure
bottles of 25 fl.oz (0,7 l) to 54 fl.oz (1,5 l).
The bottle holder does not keep a bottle in
place but prevents it from tipping over.
X Press and hold adjuster :.
X Slide it in direction of arrow to match the
size of the bottle.
X Release adjuster :.
X Insert the bottle into the bottle holder.

oh well, i guess my salesman got that wrong...
but i'll just keep the manuals in there so my glove box will have more space...
I hate the honks as well.
Is there any possible setting change to get rid of that?

Net and Honks
I've got a friend who frequently rides with me and he always carries water when he travels. He uses the net every time when in my car. My wife also uses it for her water bottle.
As for honk, I think some deleted it for safety reasons. Nobody will hear your car honk and know where to head to car jack it, supposedly. Of course, they could be looking for lights, but harder to see than to hear a honk.
Personally, I prefer no horn.

If little things like, horn, bottle net annoy some of you, what will you do when the car is not working correctly?
In the past week my heated steering wheel started working intermittently(new steering wheel on order). The next day the wiper blade on drivers side flew off at 110 KmPH while washing the windshield and cracked it. (two new wipers blades installed, new windshield on order). Now that might drive some of you ballistic. Relax, it's all part of car ownership. We can avoid all these issues by leaving the car in the garage and never driving it. That's why my Porsche is the best car in the world.

I respectfully and strongly disagree. I had an $8000 used 1995 Honda Civic back in 1998 that didn’t have these problems you just described. I would go "ape *****" if it happened to my Brand new $70k 2011 Mercedes E today. I buy new cars so I don’t have to deal with crap like what you just described. The only time I can relax when going back to a dealership is for oil changes or when buying another new car.
If my wiper blade went flying off when I am cruising down the highway then you can bet that there will never be a Mercedes in my garage again. EVER!!!
I am happy you can be calm about it though. Good for you. Seriously!
