So I ordered a couple of mods and the Depo Smoked corners came in today. My brother did his last year on his C and it was a simple 15 min install......Little did i know it was going to be one of the most stressful things i've ever installed on a vehicle.
Basically, i took a butter knife with a thin towel wrapped around it, and stuck it into the lower rear portion of the marker(where the bulb is). I got the clip out but was having trouble unhinging it from the black inner bracket. I pushed on the opposite side and pulled rearward until i cracked the stock orange marker
.
That is when i realized that you need more support on that black inner bracket. So turn your tire and take the 2nd christmas tree out of your wheel well. Stick your hand though the lining...and hold the black bracket as you pull the side marker out(its much easier).
I am a very hands on person but for some reason i took me a really long time. For the people who easily installed them...kudos to you. Hopefully the drivers side will be a little easier now that i know.
I was also bored yesterday morning before my golf game and due to the warm weather i decided to do a quick de-bage. Parked my car in the sun so the emblems could heat up...then a simple blowdryer and floss to get them off. Spray goo gone or tarminator before and after to get the excess glue off your paint.
And the photos....

I shed blood with my side marker install. Next time I will make sure I have the correct tools.

You gotta wax it I see all these fine scratches around the side marker "you" installed
Out Of Control!!
You guys who order replacement smoked markers are nuts!
A simple Tint or wrap over them would give the same outcome, for cheaper, and much easier. Plus you get the OEM fit and quality markers, and don't have to tear stuff apart get 'em in there.
And I had my Dealer debadge for me.

Debadging isn't serious enough of a thing to have the dealer do. Honestly takes 10 minutes and it feels good that you've accomplished something after. The fit on aftermarket side markers is virtually the same as oem, at least in this case, and usually isn't that that hard if you know exactly what to do. And what if you want clear side markers bc smoked ones look out of place on a lighter painted car? Then you would have to buy aftermarket ones.Originally Posted by K-A

How hard is it to debadge it?
Debadge is very simple. Take some goo gone or tarminator and spray/clean the emblems. Have someone hold a blowdryer over the first letter for about two minutes (I started with the E in E-350). Originally Posted by DefKhan1

As someone holds the blowdryer on the emblem, take a footlong peice of floss and do the same as you would to your teeth lol. Up and down motions between the paint and the letter.
As you take the first letter off...adjust the blowdryer to the next letter and keep it going(since they will already be hot). It was very easy for me and every letter stuck to the floss as it came off. The floss might rip a couple times from wearing out, but just grab a new piece n keep it going. Then take goo gone/tarminator again and whipe hard on the excess glue.
Like I said I literally did it an hour before my golf game and it took me 15 min to take off the "E-350" and "4-matic" (parking your car in the sun helps alot). No need to waste gas/time taking it to the dealer....Its pretty idiot proof.

I got them off e-bay. If you look up W212 side marker you see clear ones and smoked ones pop up. They were 54.95 with free shipping. Pretty steep price, but i wanted the smoked transparent lens instead of tinting my stock orange ones (Since the marker bulb will still shine orange at night with stock tinted ones). Plus they have a nice reflector design within the tinted glass. Originally Posted by drec300

The brand is Depo and if you look on e-bay, they should be the ones that pop up which have a red background in the photo....Like i said my brother purchased clear Depo markers for his C a while back and he was pleased. These are a very tight fitment..No regrets.

Great info! The first set I bought were smoked lenses and they were pretty loose, thanks for zeroing in on a set that have tight fitment. Originally Posted by alloutmk23

I ended up painting mine, but might purchase a set of clears for a different look.

I debadged and installed the clear markers myself. The ones I got off ebay are a perfect fit. Both are do it your self type of projects. Good luck to those who go for it...I am very happy with the resulting look.Originally Posted by PeteyV
