110v outlet?

The 2011 catalog lists a 110v outlet in pkg 2, but mbusa does not show it on the "order" menu. My car has pkg 2 but no 110v outlet. Any thoughts?

They made it a separate option. I expected to have it on my March 2011 built E550 and it wasn't there. Am I mad? You bet i am!

Because I'm going on a long driving vacation and I wanted to charge my ThinkPad as I went. There are other uses for that outlet as well. I could charge my camera's batteries on the road.

I assume that you know that voltage converters are available at Radio Shack,Sears and elsewhere that can give you 115v.It's not quite the same as a dedicated outlet installed at the factory but....

I know but it's pretty tacky that MBUSA pulled a fast one on us. Of course, it's nothing compared to removing AirMatic from 2012 W212's.

MB-abused

That's twice they pulled a fast one on me. I bought a CLS in 2005, bought and paid for "dynamic seats" as a part of a package. It arrived without the "dynamic" function. MB explained that they deleted it from the described package as they had they right to do in their small print. I asked for a refund and they said they could not price the individual features within a package - so no refund! The dealer essentially shuffled their feet and said they were caught in the middle. Now they got me with the ac inverter. Same deal. Thank goodness it is something cheap (a plug in inverter is only $20). When I am ready to buy my next car car, I will remember how mercedes has treated me.

I've probably bought my last car but if I ever order another Mercedes, I will go over each and every option with my salesman before I close the deal.

We had planned to get a light colored interior when we ordered our 2011 but found out at the last minute that Mercedes had gone to all black interiors. Black dash, black doors, black carpeting. You could get different seat colors and small inserts for the doors but my wife and I thought it looked tacky. We nearly backed out of the order but finally went with silver/black leather. It's not nearly as nice as the Cashmere interior we had on our 2008 but I wanted to get a W212 before direct injection, lean burn, start/stop and turbo-charging.

Yeah, kinda the same here. I went with the siver (ash) black leather too. I liked the all ash interior of my old cls but I like the change. The E so far is a very nice car. I LOVE mercedes as an auto, but HATE mercedes as a company!

Wow I had no idea they discontinued cashmere. It's my favorite interior color and I for some reason can;t stand black interiors. Especially when compared with everything else black, there is no contrast in the wood trim or anything...

Could you not have picked a lighter interior by going designo? Perhaps this is why they are only giving black interiors.

Kind of ironic that you are treated to better color options when buying a Hyundai...

We were going to get Almond/Mocha with diamond white exterior which was available in 2010 and shows up in the W212 Brochure. When I discovered that they'd dropped Almond/Mocha, we came within an inch of backing out of ordering a new car.

I'm not familier with the Designo program and my salesman never mentioned it. I may not have been able to get it anyway because the dealer switched from an E350 they had on order to an E550 with my options. I had only a couple of weeks to get it done.

Well, in the first cls incident, the dealer said not to worry, that they would have the correct seats shipped in. By the time they got through wrangling with MBUSA I'd had the car about two months and wouldn't have given it up if I'd found a body in the trunk. I loved that CLS. The dealer threw in a (built in)
phone to ease my pain.

Now, the the dealer has expressed their concern about the inverter and said "they would do "whatever" to make it right. They never offered to install the outlet, but might have if I'd pressed the issue. Ok. deja vu. I have had the E for a month, and I love it! It's not a CLS but it ain't bad. I didn't really care about an ac outlet anyway - you can buy one for $20 - I just don't like MB sneaking in a price increase the way they do. It's offensive when they treat us like idiots, excuse me, dummkopfs.

When I was in college, I took a sales course...and during the class it was revealed how salesmen frequently outwit, essentially cheat their customers. The question was raised "how do you get repeat business that way?" A famous salesman was quoted; "I don't need repeat business, just give me everybody one time!" Mercedes corporate office evidently took that same class. Don't get me wrong....I love Mercedes, the car.

I still can't believe they stripped Airmatic from the E550, next to the engine, that is the only reason why I bought an E550 over the 350. Real leather is a close third... But did I hear someone say that the interior now only come in black? That would be a dealbreaker for me if I were looking to get a new car as I can't deal with black interiors.

I'm not trying to excuse MB not giving you your outlet, but auto inverters are pretty cheap these days

If you need more power you could probably get a sound shop to wire in a bigger inverter for a couple hundred bucks.

Everything is black except for the seats and small inserts in the doors. The ceiling on my Luxury E550 is gray. We decided to get black seats to match the rest of the interior and switched from diamond white to Iridium Silver to go with the black interior. Compared to the light interior on our 2008, the new E550 is very dark inside and the black carpet shows dusty foot prints.

We have it in our 2011 E350, it did not come with P2 but was extra add on.

As to using it, well kids sometimes plug in a charger for DSi. I also joked that I will custom install a coffee maker

FYI, thats the reason my wife wanted the Luxury version not the Sport. The Luxury version, we have the ash, is all light ash trim all over including the carpet.

Smile 110v outlet?

As to the 110v outlet, per the Oct '10 order guide it's listed a separate option (U80 $115).

The brochure & website may have listed it in as being included (in P2) in the beginning, but the
dealer should have caught this when going over all the available options in the order guide
with you before submitting the order.

There are options available (paint, upholstery, equipment), not shown on the website & brochure.

@lfranklin: on the "dynamic seats" on your CLS, according to the MB order guide for the CLS
and the '06 car buying guide I'm looking at both show that that drive dynamic seats were only
available on the CLS55 AMG's with comfort pkg.

I take it you had the CLS500? There was a $250 price difference between the CLS500 & CLS55 AMG
comfort package to account for this ($1500 vs. $1750).

So how is it a fast one was pulled on you? I'm sorry if your dealer could not find a way to
explain this to you instead of BS'ing around (oh that got deleted, we'll order seats....right ). But it's not Mercedes fault!
The correct info was made available to the dealer.

Sorry for the rant...... I'm just trying to set things straight.

We have a Luxury version of the E550 but that interior wasn't available when I ordered my car on February 2, 2011. I think they stopped offering it sometime around the end of 2010.

My salesman checked to make sure and was surprised to find out I was right that I could have any interior I wanted so long as it was black.

MBUSA is SO DAMN stingy and lazy with the individuality options. Sucks 'cause it was always very much the opposite before the new era (W212, etc.).

wow, thats unbelievable. Why on earth would they do that? Maybe its just US market. We hated how the car looked when you had tan or ash interior and then half of the car would be black inside. The roof lining being black makes it very dark inside. Even my CLK having black interior is more on the charcoal side while the E was totally black.

Do they still offer tan or ash option but with the black parts mixed in?
