Headlamp washing E550 Lux
Headlamp cleaning: Requiring 10X windshield washer action to get a headlamp cleaning makes no sense, and there is no option. I can't recall the last time when I've operated the windshield washer 10 times in the same trip. But I can recall times when I wished I could wash the headlights. Here is another case where a very expensive option is made totally useless by arbitrary and, to this customer, senseless engineering.
Does anybody else find this "engineering" as insane as I find it? Do you feel that the requirements make the expensive option virtually worthless?

I almost never use the windshield cleaning feature because the liquid gets everywhere. I can't imagine using the headlight cleaning feature and having dirty water smearing back accross the body.

Yes, that's right - 10 times before the head lamps are washed. I used the headlamp wash button on my old E320 in the winter time when the headlights would get covered in dirty slush. I wish that MB had kept this feature. On the current BMW 535 it is 5 squirts of the windshield before the headlamps get washed.

I always thought all the cars I see with those retarded headlamp wipers are so lame anyway, unless you're IN an area that ACTUALLY could benefit from them.....
but where? in the snow?
lol complain complain complain

Like the most retarded feature ever conceived. I'm sure it's useful for that 1 in a thousand so we all have to pay for it. You can't get most of the crap off your windshield WITH using wipers. Think it's going to help those headlights without wipers? lol.

One of my cars is a 1991 300E with the old fashioned headlight wipers. They run when the windshield wipers run and the headlights are on. They may look funny but if you are driving on a slush covered road, they work.
The nice thing about the wipers is that you control the fluid separately. Mercedes probably went with the BMW approach because of cost and style.

Headlight wipers!
I added them to my '87 260E. If nothing else, they add to the look of the car. Of course on muddy/slushy roads they are a benefit. The DOT code lights of that era need all the help they can get!
When the windshield washer is activated & the headlights or parking lights are on, the headlight wipers run for as long as the stalk is depressed. Headlight wipers were introduced on US cars in 1986, the last Mercedes model to offer them was the R129 SL which ended production in 2001 (MY2002).

My BMW 530 would squirt the headlights after every three times (it would also seemed to keep count when I turned off the wipers). I found that 3x was too frequent. It was very frustrating to have the headlights squirted after washing the car. It would send foamy water everywhere and make the car a mess. With the Merc, if I need the headlights washed, I'll just hit the washers 10 times ... no big deal
