I just bought my '11 E350 Sport, Premium 2 last Monday. I have the smaller SD card interface on my COMAND console, but the angled DRLs. My car was built in 07/11, and my COMAND version is...well...I don't know exactly. My settings menu doesn't seem to have that listed. Not sure if that helps anyone, but there you have it.

If you have the smaller sd card interface, you have Comand 4.5....next year's command system. Mercedes must have made a running change for e350 sedan builds in June/July and they are now installing the latest comand system (next year's system) in the late 2011 builds.

It's just really sloppy Production management it seems. The 2011's have had quite a few "updates" throughout its cycle already.

Pretty lame, this car should be good to go until the facelift. The W212 has had so many little tweaks already.

If true, perhaps it's the only good thing to come out of that devestating earthquake/Tsunami...

Well, no matter the reason, it just makes the deal I got on my new E350 even sweeter that I originally thought

man, I gotta say....
glad I've got the hockey leds!!!!!

my car turned nothing but heads(TNBH) at the beach this past week....(550)
also got pretty good gas mileage (1 tank, 400 miles, 23.2 mpg, average speed:37 mph, according to car computer)
however I do have some gnarly water marks to deal with
I don't guess the new leds look bad, but boy, our HC's really stand out...

A "heads up" for those who (like me) leased or purchased a 2011 e350 built in June/July 2011 with the new comand 4.5 system (color dash/SD slot).

1) You likely have the wrong manuals for the system...both comand and Voice. You should get the new manuals, even though there are only a few changes from comand 4.0.

2) You should check with your dealer service manager to assure that the STAR system Mercedes uses knows that you have a comand 4.5 system installed. Otherwise, you will not get updates to comand 4.5 when they are released.

3) If you use mBrace (even on the trial) and want assistance with comand, they will insist that you have comand 4.0....you can not have a comand 4.5 system in your car. That is clearly wrong, but I am not sure how to get their records correct.

I would not assume that Mercedes systems actually know how they built our cars. Clearly item 2 is clearly the most important on this list.

Picked up my Bluetec the day it rolled off the truck, I was very hesitant about the color combo (Black/Almond) but the nav updates are very cool, my wife wishes she had the updates in her '11 GLK and she is not a gadget person really.

So I was in Downtown, full of tall buildings, and still have "3D" and the other option under it checked (can't remember the name), and no 3D buildings or something. WTF do they put in the option if the Command clearly isn't supported with it?

Sure you can, just needs to be reversible mods (wheels, springs, window tint, etc etc)

Let me know if you need any help!

Not quite correct. Some mods (springs, ECU mods etc) can cause warranty issues. Those warranty issues may cause problems when you return the lease - even if the mods are reversed.

Tint may also be an issue. It is difficult to remove tint without damaging the rear defroster wires.

Those modifications (excluding ECU) are all 100% reversible with no negligible effect or issue, provided they are installed / un-installed correctly.

I say this because 30-40% of the vehicles that we mod locally are leased.

Tried it out myself, and you are right - 3D doesn't really mean anything with our version of Comand. As an aside, I wonder what the mid-year change in Comand will do to the 2011 values? Will old/new Comand factor in?

I suspect it will have no effect on value...there's no place for running changes in any of the used car sources. It is hardly a mid-year change....the change started in July at the end of the 2011 run.

3D will only come into play if the 2011-2012 map that we have in our comand 4.5 systems has 3d info on it. If you live in a very large city, there is probably data....for most of us though, there isn't any 3d info.

Let us assume than a lowered car develops a suspension issue during the lease period. The dealership blames the issue on the mod, refuses warranty service on that issue and annotates the mod in the computer.

Upon lease return that vehicle will receive closer scrutiny and the driver may get charged for replacing things like bushings that may have had faster wear due to the mod.
