Question Brake dust on 2010 E 350

Hi Guys,

Just curious, my car in maintenance and my loaner is a 2011 E 350; I've been driving the loaner for almost 3 days and can't notice any break dust!?

I am tired of my 2010 brake dust, it's painful to clean and maintain.
Does anyone know if break pads or rotor specs/supplier changed from MY 2010 to MY2011? or is it something related to the braking system? Any ideas?

Appreciated!

Oddly enough, my 2010 seemed to have no brake dust, and my 2011 has moderate brake dust (not as bad as my '06 W211, but there's definitely brake dust now).

My old car had the standard W212 Sport Wheels, and my new car has the AMG Wheels. Maybe the wheel material "grabs" dust more?

What is the best way to clean the wheels of brake dust and not damage the finish?
I have the AMG wheels if it matters.

I get more brake dust on my rear passenger wheel than any other. Now that's odd. Even when I had the stocks on still the same issue.

Check out the detailing sub-forum for tips on keeping the wheels clean. Follow the links below. I personally like Mother's foaming All Wheel Cleaner.

The first thing I do when I buy a new car is put 2-3 coats of Zaino on it, including the wheels. From that point on, it's simply a matter of wiping or hosing the dust off.

I do notice less dust on the 2011 E550 than on the past Mercedes I've owned.

It's also much easier to clean the wheels than it was back in the day when the wheels had a more complex design.

I need some of that Zaino on my bimmer. It has brake dust galore.

Can you wax the machine finish on the AMG wheels?

I also just use warm water and a chamois to wipe mine, and they're usually spotless. I'm an advocate of not using any abrasives/detergents unless you desperately need them. Tried and tested by all my cars.

I don't know. Zaino products aren't' really wax. I also use their car wash which is very mild.

Interesting, my car has AMG rims and the loaner has regular 18. Could be the AMG's finish attract more brake dust?

+1 for Mother's All Wheel Cleaner

Agressive enough (and safe enough) for any wheel type - just let it soak in!

I noticed that my 2011 didn't have any brake dust for the first 1,000 miles, but now its coming through and my wheels are getting dirtier faster.
