Talking the loaner: part 2

Just wanted to share a pic of the loaner

It's actually not that bad! despite the small amount of power....
I'm just spoiled in that regard.
But the GLK is a great little car. It has 4M which makes it feel even more stable. Nice inside, kind of small, couldn't see going on road trips with it, but wow, I have to say I like it

true enough I guess...I looked at the models you listed and they are a bit more futuristic than the GLK that's for sure....
guess you have to be a true Mb enthusist to buy one with those other choices...wonder if all the options are the same too basically....
don't really know those...

Yeah, GLK's are pretty hideous, but it's a cool Loaner no doubt. Would be a cool "ugly stick beater" car to have around as well, considering I'm sure it's a tough and durable little "Truck" or whatever it is.

2011 E-350
We bought a red one in November of 2009, when they first came out. We bought it on Saturday, paperwork, money and all. Then I took it back on Monday morning and got my money back. It was supposed to be my wife's car (she's German and a huge MB fan) but she couldn't stand that vehicle. She said it was ugly and cheap looking. In my opinion, comparing it to other MBs, was like comparing a Colorado to a top of the line Silverado. Actually, it's a long story how it all went down, but suffice it to say, "she changed her mind! She then bought an Escalade. It's the first time she hasn't driven a MB since 1985. Actually, that's how I got my E350. I wanted another car to replace the H3 I had and she wanted us to have another MB and she didn't want to give up her Escalade yet. In another two years (the warranty will be up on the Escalade) I'll give her the E350 and I'll trade the Escalade on a 550. That's the plan, stay tuned for future developments in two years.

Did your wifey not drive or look at the car prior to buying it?

I am very partial to Mercedes, but in this class the Q5 is by far the best. The ride is great (better than that POS X3) and it sure does look alot better than the GLK. The 2.0T is a great engine aswell and 30 mpg definitley beats the GLKs.

I get GLK's as loaners. I think it is a great vehicle. Tight as a drum. I guess the looks are subjective, but, I find that, in true MB fashion, the look to me is quite purposeful. It amazes me what a good chassis the C class is, and, how flexible it is. It is the core of the Cs ,GLKs, Es (stretched and widened), E coupe (as is). MB really created a winner with this platform.

I like the GLK with AMG styling, but it needs to be said that the W/S 212 platform is not based off the 204.

I've had the GLK loaner a few times. I didn't like it when it first came out but after driving one around it grew on me. I'll probably consider one for my next daily driver.

Can you elaborate on that? I've heard and read that it in fact is based off of the W204 chassis. I even read an apparent statement by M-B stating that they decided to try the "platform sharing" idea with the E and C, as a sort of test run, and will go forward with it much more aggressively as the cost savings have proved substantial.

The GLK is based on the C-Class chassis, uh the W204. Not sure where this about it being based on the W212 chassis is coming from. Every bit of the GLK is pure C-Class inside and out. The GLK's chassis code X204 gives it away along with countless other details. Again, more misinformation.

The GLK absolutely is a tall W204, but I was curious about the comment on the W/S212. I'm under the impression that the 212 is loosely based on the 204's chassis.

Just Rented a POS Civic to drive for some long distance work stuff this weekend. Been driving my E all the time for it, racking the mileage up, and much more importantly, such as life goes, I'm starting to take the car for granted more. No matter how nice something is, if you drive it all the time, lots of time and mileage, you lose some specialness from it.

So I go slumming this weekend, to get my E back to appropriate "specialness" measures when I get back.

.... I liked when I had a Beater, as it kept me at a nice balance. I think I gotta get another one.

My co-worker bought a GLK...and Im thinking of replacing the ML with a GLK for my wifey. Besides the issue with ignition coil problems, have anyone heard of what else to watch for on the GLK?

Yep I have a 08 civic for just that. Great cars just get in and go. Door dings, rock chip, road grime, no worries. I've always had a civic since 93 as a DD beater car to haul kids, groceries, etc.. When I crawl into my Benz(s), it's like ahhhh... calgon. lol. These new civics are nice though, full heated leather, voice activated nav, 40ish mpg. Really just hard to beat for a beater.

Yup, totally agreed. You gotta give it to Honda, they know what they're doing in what they're doing.

I think I have to invest in a Beater type car. As silly as it sounds, even if I spend $20K on it, it saves me money in the long run, because my $60K E-Class remains as a "special" car to me, something that is my pure luxury. If I drive my E like I have recently, I will get SO sick of it (I get REALLY sick of cars that I drive a lot), and that $60K car will have to turn into an $80+K car (in reality, to have a bonafide upgrade from an E-Class in my eyes, you need to near the $100K mark).
