Gas Door
Does anyone else have an issue opening the gas door on there e350? I have noticed that I need to pry it open from the side rather then pushing it in slightly and having it spring open.
I brought it in to service and they told me there is a "sweet spot" that you need to push in order for it to open. For all the my previous MB's I had, I never had this problem.
In any case, they are ordering a whole new assembly and it should be ready next week.
Is the service guy I am dealing with just a moron or his he in fact right??

It's a bit tricky at first, but a push at between 9 & 10 o'clock and it pops open. The door is plastic so it deforms slightly when you give it a press. This may be the source of the sweet spot to get it just right.

Make sure the car doors aren't locked. This has happened to me before...if the doors to the car are locked, so is the gas door, making you think it is broken, stuck, etc.
Test it by purposefully locking the doors, try to open the gas door, it won't, (see if this recreates the problem you had before) then unlock the car doors, and then see if if the gas door will open.

Mine opens at around 2:37, but before or after that it just doesn't work.
Makes getting Gas a HUGE inconvenience and PITA.

so the guy just called me back and said the car will be ready tomorrow. He stated the the E class is a lot different then the way the C class opens. Anyone agree?

Strange system
I had the exact same problem with closing the fuel door due to the gas cap lanyard on our new W212. After reading comments here - I removed the cap off and let it hang the way it seemed to want to hang - then put the cap back on and the door shut with no issues at all. I was convinced the latch was broken.

Also, there is an "emergency" release inside the trunk near where the fill tube is located.
Why couldn't they just put a button inside the car like everybody else in the world?

Mine seems to work best if I push in about the middle of left side.

That is a mechanical release in the event that the locking mechanism fails

Actually, every other car in the world has an emergency release as well - in this case if the button inside the car fails.

I hate buttons in the interior as well. Not only are they more prone to breaking, but when you get a Rental with one, sometimes you CAN'T FIND IT! (Yes, I've literally looked around some POS Honda/Ford/GM/Nissan/et al for 10 minutes trying to find the stupid lever/button at a Gas Station). The worst was my Moms E60 5-Series BMW, I couldn't find that damn thing with all the buttons in that car!
