New Member- Introduction Thread

Hello MBWorld,

My name is Justin, been browsing the forum for a bit of time now, I'm a active member on Club Lexus so I'm not new to forums. I've been looking at E and S Classes for a while now and I finally got around to test driving both today at my local dealership (MB of Pembroke Pines) I first test drove the 12' S550 and it is really nice, the steering feel is really nice for such a huge car and the TT 4.6 is refined and has plenty of power. I gunned it on the way back to the dealership and it really moves. But when my fiance drove the S550, she was intimidated by the size and she said the throttle was too sensitive for her.

We then drove a 10' E550, I like it a lot its quieter than the S and the steering feels a bit better IMO. My fiance immediately fell in love with the E, she was more comfortable with the size and price lol. I really wanted a W221 but the salesman recommended to wait for the 2013 S Class and we both agreed.

So until then we're getting a W212. I've got my eyes on two E550s. The one we test drove was a Artic White/Almond Beige thats CPO with the Sport pkg and the P01 pkg, its listed at $45,990 and it has 33,6xx miles. The only prob is, is that I can't rotate the tires due to the staggered wheels and the tires cost a arm and a leg each. The second one is also a 2010 but its not CPO, its Iridium Silver/Black interior with the Luxury and P02, Wood steering wheel, rear side airbags, and the Burl Walnut wood trim. It has 31,6xxx, were leaning towards this one so I guess I'll have to pay the $800 to certify it and have the 125,000 mile warranty. This one is better optioned, cheaper, and has less miles so were most likely going to go with this one unless one with a better deal turns up.

The plan is to wait a year after the W222 comes out and buy a CPO S550 and my fiance will have the E550

A lot of things to consider. In my opinion the most important thing is to make sure you get the CPO. The warranty is worth Way more than what it will cost you.

But I still have the option to pay the $800 and make it a CPO though.

Interesting you say the E is quieter than the S. I've heard this from others as well.

I'm not familiar with the requirements for a car to be considered CPO, but what do they offer for reasoning why the 2nd of the two cars:

1. Isn't CPO'ed already, and you would have to pay for that certification while the first of the two is certified already?
2. The 2nd car has fewer miles and more equipment, but is less money than the first car?

With respect I apologize in advance if I missed something.

Either way, enjoy whichever you choose!!

I know, weird right? Exiting the dealership parking lot, the exhaust note of the S was more pronounced than the E. When I accelerated the exhaust was a bit louder than the E but I liked it lol. The TT4.6 sounded much better than the 5.5L.

I forgot to ask the salesman why the white one was CPO'd and the silver one wasn't. I'm assuming the white one this more expensive because its already CPO'd.

Very interesting to hear you find the turbo 4.6 to be louder and better sounding than the 5.5. While I haven't heard the 4.6 myself yet, the common theme around here is the 5.5 is throatier and better sounding.

$800 to CPO a car is not bad so get it done if you choose that one. Also, consider negotiating the CPO cost in to the deal on your purchase.

Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the welcome. The 5.5 is more throatier due to it being NA and sounds like a more humble 6.2L but I just like the 4.6's exhaust note better. It sounds muffled and low pitched but still throaty at higher rpms which I like when the lady drove it back to the parking lot, it kinda sounded like the 5.5L V12 at low rpm IMO.

Thank you very much for your generosity and I appreciate it but I'm actually good friends with the guy I'm working with, my dad worked with him when he purchased his E420 several years ago so we're gonna work out a deal when I go back in a couple of weeks. Thanks again.

I like your plan!! Welcome to the forum. I'm from N.J. and passed through Pembroke Pines on my way to do some furniture shopping last June(I bought a place in Sunny Isles Beach). Looked nice and made me think of the Grateful Dead as they used to play there when in Florida. I think an e550 with around 35,000 miles for mid $40s with cpo sounds like a great value auto purchase. Go for it. Regards. Ned.

Thanks for the welcome, yes indeed it is a great deal so hopefully I can go through with purchasing it. My dad loves the Grateful Dead lol.

CPO's aren't everything they are cracked up to be. I bought a CPO W211 and it turned out to be a lemon. Was able to lemon law the W211 because it was CPO, but they came up with all kinds of reasons as to why repairs were not covered under the warranty that I had to pay for pre-lemon and that was just a month into my ownership.

There are many requirements for a car to be able to qualify as a CPO. Don't quote this, as it is just off the top of my head from what I remember hearing...

Firstly the car can not have any kind of structural damage. Damage/repairs to the bumpers are acceptable. But I think any kind of full panel repair will unqualify a car.

Secondly the car can not be a resold car. ie. If I bought a brand new MB and sold it to the dealer they can CPO it. But if I bought a CPO car from MB and then resold it back to MB, they can't CPO it because of the resale.

GL on your search. Most people here on the forums bought brand new with great incentives. I was going to buy another CPO W211, but decided paying that extra 10K+ to buy a new W212 was worth the peace of mind. Because of my experience w/ buying a lemon CPO, I will never again buy a used MB unless it's a toy (clunker/classic).

It doesnt have any damage so I'm guessing its a resold car. And I really want to buy a brand new W212 so I can have the 4.6 and be able to customize it myself but my fiance is trying to pinch pennies even though its coming out of my bank account but I can't argue with her.

Just cuz it doesn't look damage doesnt mean it wasnt in an accident. Ask the dealer why it isn't a CPO if you are planning to buy it.

Not sure how good the new engines are on the 2012 W212s, but killer deals can be had on the older model 2011 W212s. I got mine brand new out the door a year ago for under 49K. I'm sure if I got the same car now, I could probably knock another 1-2K off of that.

That's at the top of my concerns too, I'll shoot him a email tomorrow asking why.
