show me your tints!!!
Hey guys, well I went with the accelerator program through Mercedes and left my GLK lease 3 months early. Mercedes of Sugarland gave me an amazing deal on a 2012 E350.
So I need to tint this thing bad. What do you guys recommend? I had 20% on my GLK and loved it, and I'm not sure if I want to do 20% again on the E350. The GLK had large windows, so it was dark but not really dark. Is 20% to dark for the E350? I don't want to go to light either, allowing people to see in clearly?
Can you guys post picks of the different percentages? 20% 30% 35%?? Thanks the the help. I'll post pics when the weather clears up..

You will get lots of opinions on this, I'm sure. I live in Alabama. Here the law says 35% max. I run 35% on all four of my vehicles. It is legal, it is dark enough, and it definitely helps with the sun and heat.
I remember, back in '89 I had "dark" tint on my new Grand Prix. It was so dark, it was dangerous to drive at night. You couldn't see s--t! The bottom line, I would recommend 35%, it look good, legal in most states, dark enough to make a significance difference.

My contribution: I think its only 35%. But on a white car with black interior, it looks a lot darker.
Edit: Checked with dealer. Its 35%, which is legal here.

Mine is medium all the way around. Not sure %. You can see better pics of the tint if you follow the link in my sig below.
Since your car is black and you have a black interior, I'd do as dark as possible. Even if you go less than the darkest, it will still show darker than most because of your color combo.
Stay away from Huper Optik. Overpriced junk IMO and it has a metallic look to it.
Think the main thing about tint, is not what color is best for other people, but what you prefer. My opinion is the darker the better. But when you go too dark, you run the risk of getting a ticket for it.

Whoa! OJ! LOL. I've been waiting to see your car. I'm gonna be honest, and this coming from a guy who's individualized his own car to probably be relatively polarizing to some.... definitely not my thing at all, but A+ for individuality!
As for Tints, I always go as dark as I can get it on the back windows, and then second-to-darkest on the front two (nothing on the windshield).

I am who I am. All my vehicles will always be unique to anyone else's in town. I am now 65 and that has been the case since I was a teenager.
I went through the same thing with a Hummer H3 on the Hummer forum. However, I will never go as far with the Mercedes as I did with the Hummer. Even I would admit, it was a real "Pimp Ride."
Thanks again, if you have any questions about anything I have done to it, don't hesitate to send me a PM.

I love this forum, and I love the opportunity to share our differences.
Personally, I could never drive a vehicle the way it came off the assembly line. I do appreciate each and everyone who does, but that is not my cup of tea. I used one analogy in a previous post, but here is another one. Some guys go out at night in a $500 suit while others go out in levis and a tee shirt. It doesn't make one better than the other, it just makes each unique to the other. That my friend, is what makes America...America. Have a fantastic weekend!

OJ.
That's what I aimed for. That's why I love the E-Class line: Understated in nature, which is very important to me and especially in how well a car wears to my eyes, but you can individualize it to your liking to make it a stand-outer at the same time. Kind of gives it a Jekyll/Hyde, chameleon effect. Blends in, or stands out, depends on the situation.

well said hyperion! I got a lot of sh*t for having chrome 22's on my GLK, but i love chrome. I won't be doing any customizing to the E class, except for the roof and truck spoilers. I made sure what ever car I bought next I would not go crazy changing things. Plus the ride is so smooth compared to the 22's on the GLK. Night and day difference
