New Lexus GS?
The new GS was on display, walked toward it, got the gist, got bored, walked away.
I was in my amg, so he had no chance, but I signaled him into a gas station once we got off the highway
to tell him his car looked good, it was black and blacked out, lowered with some sort of AM wheels.....but it did look good.....
he said it was a 4 cylinder, and then started asking me about my car.......
but I did think the look was okay......and better than lexus
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

The ES is a painfully dull and disconnected ride. The steering wobbles, last night in the rain I had to do 40 on the Highway (yes, 40), 'cause I was terrified at how some puddles would "take the car". The interior feels passionless and relatively cheap, no lit glows at night around the dash and door areas so it's a pretty dark environment for a Luxury Car, the buttons and switches and overall feel is fairly flimsy and non substantial, the fit and finish isn't very impressive. The seating position is awful for someone of my height (6'4), as I can't get too "into the car", my head is sticking in the Pano roof opening, and the windshield is mostly under my line of sight. The styling is painfully dull and un-sexy and "Granny intended" that I kind of have to look over my shoulders to hope no one I know sees me in it (maybe I'm too vain when it comes to cars). I'm just not impressed with it.
However, it's smooth as butter, glides over bumps, and if you don't give a damn about the emotional aspects of car ownership or a connection with your car, and aren't too tall, it's a great driver, sure. And hey, passion and aesthetic are subjective to the person at hand, so some could certainly feel passion from it I guess (I just couldn't comprehend it).

BTW, JD Powers (for what it is worth) reports Lexus in #1 in long term reliability.

Lexus has always been #1 in reliability, no question there. What I don't like is the tactile feel of quality on their cars (even up to the LS when comparing to the M-B counterpart), flimsier sounding parts and doors, "lighter" feeling buttons that seem to wear down faster, chintzier materials here and there (less substantial than what you will find in most good German interiors).
The hydroplaning is indeed because 2 of the front tires are getting near replacement time (backs are new), but the cars steering and handling is SO wobbly and insecure, I find myself driving very cautiously as you don't have a feeling of utmost control behind the wheel.

Yawwwwn. Lexus's design language is just unappealing to me in so many passionate-related ways.
The presence of it on the roads, especially with the car actually off, so the LED gimmicks don't try and overcompensate for the design, is nil. I'd say it's a good thing, as the clientele probably wants something simple and elegant, but damn! That trying-too-hard-face just is at odds with it otherwise. The ES I was driving looked even sleeker behind it.
The greenhouse and side profile of it are very reminiscent of the current LS, IMO.

BTW, I have been told that front wheel drive cars are more prone to hydroplaning. Had a Saab 900 Turbo and it hydroplaned fairly bad on wet roads.
To me, and to most, I feel that the ES is the quintessential Lexus, at least in the fact that it's the volume-selling leader. I'm not a fan of the ES in the least, but I will say they did a good job of visually differentiating it with the Camry. It's hard to see a relation, aside from obvious Toyota bloodline. I actually might even like the Camry design more, it's stronger looking.
In reality, "a real Lexus" is kind of an oxymoron. Lexus' are really Toyota's anyway.... and that's not even meant as a jab to the brand, it's fact.
It's unbelievable how some can't have a rational and respectable discussion about another non-MB car. I am not into the GS styling but I think the specs are VERY impressive. The acceleration and breaking is phenomenal. If you were on an interstate doing 80 and had to slam on the breaks, you'd be so much better off in a GS and that's pretty pathetic with all the technology MB has access to and they've barely made the 60-0 times better from the W211.
I love my 550 but for someone considering the E350 and really wants more acceleration/power and TECH the GS is I think a great choice if you can stomach the exterior styling...
