What Brightness do you have your COMAND Screen set to?
Random question, but if I'm not mistaken, it comes from the factory set at "8", right (the radio/video/nav/etc. screen)?
I found it set a little too bright when I take long drives in my car, so lowered it, but was playing with it again and couldn't remember the stock setting.

Yeah, it's under the "Settings" or "Display" Menu (can't remember the name).
I keep the Ambient's at the OEM setting (I think 3 out of 5?) I have the almond 2-tone interior so the lighting has a nice showing off the almond tones, and I'm for some reason paranoid that if I keep them too bright they'll burn out prematurely.
My eyes are fairly sensitive to bright lights when I'm in an environment where I need to focus or stay alert/awake, so I seem to pay a lot of attention to this kind of stuff.

Wait, 5 out of 10 (for the COMAND screen)? Hmm, if that's the case then someone must have adjusted mine up to 8 or 9 when I got it, because I'm sure I lowered it at least 1 notch to 7 for a while.

Auto Mode is for the Night/Day setting. There's also a "Display" setting that has you choose your own Brightness (different from the Auto/Day/Night mode).
