2012 E550 owners. Want your opinions?
Since you have taken ownership, what things do you like best about your car?
I'm interested to hear your reviews since I have one on order.
Thanks.

don't have 2012 but have a 2010. although it ain't no e63, still has plenty power, especially if you switch to sport. you may want to check out the other thread about what three things people like the most about the car. the waiting must be brutal for you, huh?

There are a handful of threads on this one already...
The new engine is fantastic (powerful enough for me to give up my E55).
I like the straight LED's, although i think i might be in the minority on that one.
New headrests are more like S-Class.
Artico covered dash & full colour instrument cluster display is bonus.
You'll love the car...order it with Airmatic, if you're in the US...it comes std equip here in Canada.

I've had my 2012 E550 for 2 months and it just turned 3,000 miles. The power still surprises me every time I drive it and the mileage is pretty impressive too. I have no complaints.

It's amazing how suddenly 268 hp is not enough....happened to me too.
Had a 2011 E350 P2 and all but I wanted Distronic that was very difficult to find in E350 models (used). I drove 30000 miles to my car in one year and traded it in for a 2010 E550 with the driver assistance package. This car is basically the same as 2011 model. It had only 14 000 miles on the clock and with CPO warranty it has more warranty left than what I would have had on my 2011 E350.
But that power...no way going back even though the power was not the reason to get this. Distronic with pre safe brake is an awesome safety feature and really nice to use in traffic.
Cooled seats is another thing that you do not know you need before you actually have one.
And the sound system is better than in 2011, not to mention the keyless go locks that on this car open when I just pull the door handle at any speed. On the 2011 if I pulled handle too fast the door would not open. Had to let it go and pull again. On this one door opens with the first try no matter how fast the pull is.
And that airmatic with sport and comfort and you can raise the car up for some rough road conditions.
And this thing gives me almost exactly the same gas mileage with the V8 engine than the V6 did on the E350. I drive almost all on highways so the engine size should not really matter like it seems not.
One thing I learned with these cars is that I will not buy another new one. It does not make sense when they give you the CPO warranty from the start and then you can buy extended warranty up to 130 000 miles. Find a good low mileage CPO car and you save a bunch of green buying it instead of the new one. Unless you just have that green so plenty you don't need to worry about it...

Is there a reason why Mb made the new motor with lower hp and tq in the E and CLS than what is in the CL,SL AND S when its the same motor. For years, they all shared the same 5.5 NA motor with the same HP and TQ, but now the E and CLS have 402hp and 429tq and the CL,SL and S have 429hp and 518tq, out of the same motor. I think the new motor is sick and will be so easily able to increase the performance from aftermarket companies. Its simple to increase boost without trying to fool the computer. It will be a money maker for these companies, and a serious threat to older NA e63's. I'm pretty jealous, wish I had the new one because I'm a hp junky, just can't afford a E63 right now.

That's weird about the Keyless Go and Sound system being different. The 2011 being newer, you'd think that the features like that if anything would be refined as the years go up.... however, even that's not true. Fact is, they should be the exact same features, so they should work identically (unless you didn't have P1 in your 2011, to get the HK System, which is doubtful). Maybe the previous owner set the Sound Settings to a point where it sounds more pumped than the Settings you kept your stereo at on your 2011?
My E350 was a P2 with all that comes with it. Also panorama roof, split folding rear seat.
More specifically the difference with Keyless Go is that when the car is locked and I pull the door handle the door unlocks but with the 2011 E350 if I pulled the handle quickly before the unlock happened the door just unlocked but did not open. I had to let the handle go back in and pull again to open the door. With this 2010 E550 the door opens with just one pull, i.e. even when pulling quickly before the unlock happens the door opens as the unlock takes place. No need to release and pull again.
Before getting this car I test drove a 2010 E350 and it had this the same way so either MB changed the Keyless GO unlocking function or my 2011 E350 had it working different than it should.
For sound system I can say that bass in this 2010 E550 is a lot better than it was in the 2011 E350. That is the difference and again I noticed this same with the 2010 E350 that I tested. I'm quite sure the sub between 2010 and 2011 is not the same and as so many times it could be that the speaker in newer 2011 is lower cost and that is what I can hear.
And this is not about sound settings as there really isn't any. Bass and Treble is not a great setting selection and I have done all there is to do (like surround ON/OFF) with these with both cars. It just is that 2010 sounds better.

Any info on brake pads? Did MB change material between 2012 and 2010?
I had no brake dust with my 2011 E350 but this 2010 E550 runs black rims just next day after washing it. My local MB parts said there is no difference in brake pads between 2010 and 2011. Did they tell me a lie?

Today, I read some test reviews on Mercedes W212 E500 , US gets E550
New engine churns out more torques 600 Nm despite downsizing , 4.8 lt
It has now more HP figures compared to old engine ,408 HP
Fuel efficiency gets improved , highway 5.7 lt/100 km ,city 8.9lt/100 km
I bet you can never catch these numbers because you would like to hear how it growls
