TPMS for aftermarket wheels?

For all those who have upgraded their stock wheels....did you buy new TPMS sensors and had it re-programmed to your system? Thanks.

That's probably not the best option. You need to dismount your old tires, remove TPMS, rebalance. If you keep them, then you'll need to do that all over again to get the sensors back and if you sell your wheels then you'll get substantially less because of the missing sensors.

Just buy a second set of sensors. While the initial cost may be higher, it'll be cheaper in the long run.

Same here. Why spend the extra money on another set when you don't even know if a buyer will need them. I didn't cause I put them on my 211. If a buyers car uses sensors then he can switch his over to your rims.

My local Discount Tire switched monitors to new wheels for $60. No problems of any kind.

Same as everyone else.

Just moved the sensors that came with the car to my new wheels.

I'm going to revive an old thread here...

I'm looking for the part number or frequency or whatever specific type TPMS we need in our w212s.

swapping is not the best option..

Alternatively can the TPMS indicator/warning be turned off? that may be an option as well as i dont mind manually checking my tire pressures like a caveman

1 Tirerack or most any large tire dealer can supply.

2.Just don't activate TPM mode.

Agree. The correct way is to get second (or even third) set of sensors.

The part number for W212 (and for this matter for most late model MBs) is 433 MhZ sensor (not any 433 will do as they produce different signals) made by Schrader part number 28214. TireRack sells them for only $62 each - part number is S086 28214. I bought four sets from them - plug and play. Easy.

Thanks for the info, exactly what I was looking for.

How do you deactivate the TPM mode? In the 'secret engineering' menu?

The "secret" menu is called the "owners manual".

My TPMS moved from my stock to aftermarket wheels with zero issues.

Take look around page 232 Here http://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/DigitalA...10_e_sedan.pdf

Hi,
my MB service advisor told me there is no way to deactivate the TPM
mode since it is a mandatory safety feature, just like you cannot
deactivate the seatbelt warning. I don't know if he is correct.

He wasn't sure what warning you'd get if you ran tires without the monitors.
Would a warning light just stay on all the time or would it then go to a higher level warning---audio or flashing light???

Anyone run a W212 without the monitors that can tell us all what happens?
Thanks

running wheels without tpms just leaves the light on near speedometer and everytime the car starts you will have the message displayed in speedo and have to cancel it.

Thanks,
so you cancel it and the message goes away/ doesn't come back until
the next time you start the car?

Nice to know.
P.S. is your vehicle a 2007 E? Anybody know what happens on W212 as it may
not be the same?? Thanks

FYI, I bought a set of used sensors on ebay for under $200 for all 4 and had them put in my new set of wheels. I'm really glad I've got two sets now that don't require a trip to the tire shop to get functional - FWIW
