Windshield crack
If it can't be fixed, then it comes under the comprehensive portion of your insurance. While your deductible applies, your rates won't change based upon the claim.
If it needs to be replaced, let the MB dealer do it.
While they outsource it (probably to the same Safelite guys) they're on the hook for fixing any of the electronics that don't work after the replacement. If you go straight to Safelight, then you may be in a "it isn't our fault" discussion with both Safelite and MB.
my dealer did outsource the work; but it was performed at the dealer....seemed fine to me, although it cost me a thousand bux

I'd recommend taking photos of the gaps at the top and sides of the original windshield (and/or measure them) to compare to the newly installed one. The gaps don't need to identical - just close. As long as the trim bits are put back correctly you shouldn't have issues with wind noise.
State Farm would not pay $1100.00 and the dealer SA did not negotiate with them.
I called all three aftermarket glass companies and asked for a genuine MB windshield. One company agreed to get it authorized by my insurer and that is what was installed with the rain sensor attached.
If you look at the lower driver's corner of the windshield the data is there to identify the glass as a genuine MB windshield.
What the insurance company WOULD NOT PAY for was any manufacturers decals. If you look in the passenger side lower corner you will see a Mercedes Benz decal in script. This was transferred from my old windshield to the new. The installer related that when he was first in the business a customer told him not to bother transferring the sticker only to learn it was a $50 item from the dealer. I have not verified the price.
I have had no issues with the new one, my glass deductible is $0 and it does not affect the premium as it is a comprehensive claim.

So, my auto glass guy called the dealer to order an OEM windshield....Insurance covered the cost.
However, I do work with this Auto Glass company on a weekly basis lol
Good choice BTW. The original windshield is always a better bet.
