Driver's side LED hockey stick out....where to buy cheapest OEM replacement?

My driver's side hockey stick DRL has malfunctioned and I'm getting a "Check Front Left DRL" in the instrument cluster. I turned the DRLs off to avoid the fault message every time I start the car. The best price I've found is between $220 and $275 for the new LED assembly. Dealer is going to charge $100 to simply check the darn thing.....assuming that it could simply be a loose connection. I don't know how to access that area of the car otherwise I'd check it myself.

Do any of you know of a place where I could find a cheaper replacement? Of course I don't want some $45 Ebay replacement either.

wow, that's lame....but very cool that the IC tells you even about a damaged DRL....
damn I miss my car.....
so the light has not been damaged but just conked out??

I do not know where you live but there must be an indy shop near you somewhere....
tried to google that yet? an indy shop is indispensable......and usually makes you feel better than going to the stealer......

Warranty?

Either way, $220 for that thing sounds pretty reasonable for OEM parts.

first thing you need to do is...find another dealer! it's not damaged nor aftermarket and they were trying to charge you for a warranty issue ?

So you are sure this is not a matter of the light bulbs just going out?

in fact, doesn't really matter a bulb goes out or the entire unit is dead, it should still under warranty.

I bet if you got the LED out and put 12V across the terminals it would light just fine.....they really don't fail in a normal lifetime (although it can happen). Most likely it's a wiring/plug issue...perhaps the plug has come out at the light itself. However, I think it's a warranty item so I'd go to a different dealer and see what they say/do.

So for LED lights they don't have a circuit board with the lights in it that you can just swap out? Seems awfully wasteful to buy a whole new ~$200 lamp assembly when the lights go out though I agree that it is more likely there is a loose connection somewhere.

When we go to LED headlamps I hope they are designed so you can replace the LED bulbs that go out...

Thanks guys for the replies and comments. It's been a crazy week and I haven't had a chance to come online to check the responses. Anyway, yes...as was stated, I'm out of warranty seeing as how I have just over 60k miles on my car. I drive a lot, but I love it and they're made to be driven.

If it makes a difference, the car was washed and everything was fine....parked overnight...start up the next morning, and I get the"check from left DRL" notice in the I instrument cluster.

I will try to loosen the inner fender and check the connections/plugs myself before taking it in. I'm due for a Service B so I'm hoping they'll be nice and check it while they're doing the service since I'm paying them an arm and a leg anyway.

Nevertheless, I'll definitely utilize the suggestions here if it comes down to my having to replace the entire LED assembly to correct the issue. Hopefully it's something simple and cheap such as a bad connect or plug and not the light itself.

if you have good relationships w/either your service advisor or tech, they'll check for you. no biggies. if parts needed, they will even throw in a nice discount.

honestly, 10% off is no big deal. service/parts dept can give you that w/o any problem. just need to ask nicely. don't be a member just because of that discount. however, the magazine and the discount toward your next car purchase is worth it.

The link I posted above gives you quite a big discount for example the 5 spoke wheel is retail $495, but only $395 via the online store.

Not every dealer gives 10% MBCA discount for parts and service. The new car purchase discount is provided through MBUSA and requires 12 months MBCA membership prior to purchase.
