Mercedes Benz E300, GL500(my mum's), Toyota Avensis.
Couple of questions.

I just got my brand new E300 delivered. And to be honest, I'm loving the car, huge step up from my Toyota Avensis. I just have a couple of questions.
1. It's a 2012 model, but I'm not sure if it's the M276 or the M272 engine. And for the love of me, I can't find the engine number. How else can I know?
2.Do E Classes have adaptive transmission management, and if they do, how long does it take to lock in. I can swear my Mum's GL500, which I drive a lot got more aggressive when it hit 2500km.
3. Running in the car is excruciating, must I baby it till 1500km?

That's all for now, thanks in advance.

I don't know what the E300 is so I don't know about the engine but I know about the break-in.

If you bought the car and plan to keep it for long time I would recommend to baby it for the recommended distance. Don't overly rew-up the engine but don't drive with a constant engine speed either.

What is very important and I don't understand why MB thinks they are so much better than others not recommending the first oil change at 5000 miles (7500 km) but I really recommend doing the first oil change at half of the distance MB recommends. Most of the meta dust comes off of the engine parts, mainly pistons and cylinders, during the first few thousand of miles of use and collects in the oil and filter.

In fact, I do my oil change every 5000 miles even though the car has over 30 000 miles on it. Someone may say this is an overkill but it is the cheapest insurance for the engine if you want to keep the car beyond warranty time.

Congrats and welcome

Been there , I was kinda nervous during my 1st 1500 km period . Some say drive it as you like but I followed more conservative way of driving and take Arrie's great advice , not constant speed yet shy high revs

Happy safe driving

I think your engine is a detuned version of the 350, should be 248hp/251tq. Not sure what the MB name(code) is of it. Should be killer on MPG. Congratulations on the new ride and good luck with it, also, welcome to the forum.

Thanks a lot guys. I'll take your advice then, and keep varying the engine speeds, till I get to 1500km. I'm just really anxious to know how the car performs.

congrats and welcome aboard ! the best way to get over the 1500km quicker is drive more . i was finding all kind of excuses to go to the farther grocery stores or malls just to kill all those miles at the very beginning for all the cars when i bought brand new. babysit it as much as you can and you'll love it that much more down the road . oh, don't forget to post some pics .

No it's a silver mat, I didn't want the benz mats that came with my car getting messed up, and yeah it's aftermarket.
That's Night View assist plus, it uses infrared light and hence shows a black and white picture.

One picture is confusing. Starting with the late 2011's (in the US), the Comand system changed to 4.5. One of the physical attributes of 4.5 is that the slot in the center console changed from a PCMCIA (wide) slot to a much smaller SD card slot.

Your 300 is new..presumably a 2012/2013 however it seems to have the wider card slot in the center console. I'm wondering if this is a worldwide change, unique to your country or unique to your car.

Where is this car located? year? etc.

I don't think one needs heated seats in a tropical climate where the OP is.

If he's in the UK, the fact that the steering wheel is on the wrong side is a much bigger problem than the type of memory card he has.

I'm in Nigeria, so heated seats are a NO NO!!! I never used the ones in my avensis.
I think the PCMCIA slot is a regional thing though, I'm honestly not sure. The cars brought to Nigeria are european spec. My Mum's older GL500 has the smaller SD card slot and an older command version, but that could be due to the fact that almost all GLs are made in the US, but like I said, I'm not sure. The spanking hawt CLS I also saw at the dealer the other day had the PCMCIA slot as well, truthfully I would have preferred the standard SD card slot.
As for mods, except software based mods, but as far as the hardware and mechanics goes, I probably lack the courage, skill or equipment, some things are so hard to find down here. I'd love to upgrade Command for instance, but the dealer had no idea that was possible.

Congrats man!!!

I know this is old but must share info for all,,
So after many many many research, the detuned e300 is M272 code. Check the oil filters between m272 and m276. Ive attached a photo for more clarification
