Mobile phone use

Hi, Can anyone advise if this is the norm? If I am on a call on my mobile through the cars blue-tooth connection, when I switch off the ignition fully it drops out of the call (ie when you arrive home but still on a call)??? This has caught me out a few times as I would have expected it to hold onto the call until I closed the call on my phone.
When I had my BMW it maintained the call even with the ignition off and the key out until I closed the call then all would drop out?

Which phone do you have? Have you tried another brand?

I think it shuts COMAND off when you turn the car OFF and open the door. My COMAND stays ON until I open the door. I have Keyless-GO though so it could be different without it.

The command system shuts off when you open the door or after the specified time limit (think 5 mins) and hangs up the call. If you want to stay on the line, select phone from source options (iPhone here) and gives me MB Bluetooth, iPhone or speaker as my three options. If I select iPhone I continue to talk as normal until I hang up on the phone

keyless go gives you a little advantage. You can stay in call until open door. I agree that BMW has better design, although some people complained that could drain battery because phone didn't get diconnect properly after ending a call.

The call is disconnected in my car also when I turn the engine off.

Another advisory, if you are on a bluetooth connected call through the vehicle and using the NAV system, pay attention, the verbal instructions are superseded by the phone call. Kind of obvious but it can catch you if you are dependent on the verbal reminders as the NAV screen is superseded by the phone screen also.

It really shouldn't hang up the call, it should just disconnect bluetooth - like when you get out of the car when it is still running just transferring audio to the phone. This really sounds more like a bug as opposed to intended functionality.

I haven't tried this as I turn off bluetooth on the phone and start talking on it before I get out. good to know so I will make sure I continue to do this.

My iPhone4 is disconnected when I turn off my car too. Unless I manually switch to another mode other than MB Bluetooth on my iPhone itself prior to turning the car off.

Exactly right - and this caught me off guard too as I was expecting the BT connection to drop and the call to remain active on the phone; not hang up!
Perhaps COMAND is sending a hang up command to the phone or not implementing the handoff correctly.
As an example, when I shut off my BT earpiece that I'm using with the phone, the call stays active and audio reverts to the phone. One would expect the car to function similarly.
So, if I'm still on the call after I've parked and need to head out of the car I select the "handset" option on the phone (BB 9700) and that kills the BT connection but keeps the call live on the phone.

I did not know this (the car I mostly use has a different BT setup with BT SAP), good to learn something new every now and then (at this age it doesn't happen so often ). Perhaps MB thought this is a safety issue but it looks like a bug to me too. It should be OK to leave hands-free mode when the ignition is turned off anyway.
