Camaro SS vs 2010 E550
Just happened yesterday.
Driving out from my neighborhood a guy from a house on the way pulled out from his driveway in front of me in his race car colored new Camaro SS. We drive to the stop sign to get to the main hwy.
As it is so very common that almost everybody wants to race me just because it is a MB I was ready for it and sure enough after we get on the highway the guy gasses it. Well, I gassed it too and stayed right at his trunk. At 80 mph he let it down as he obviously could not smoke me. I just wonder what could have happened if the road was longer and I used the manual shift to get the correct gear on...
I thought the Camaro SS is much faster...?

If I remember right the camero is a couple tenths of a second and a couple mph faster in the 1/4 mile. Driver makes all the difference. Bet he'll think twice about messing with another 4 door MB. Lol

Well, I ain't surprised at all .Because W212's V8 engines are extremely fast for a car of that size and weight
I believe twin turbo is what makes it even peppier than N/A engines despite some likely turbo lag problems associated with turbo engines .I don't think you would even feel that turbo lag in this engine at all

I don't know, you guys!
My 2011 E550 scares me off the mark, and scares the hell out of me on the open roads of the desert/mountain west.
But not by its behavior --- the car always seems like it is completely in control, on the bumps and humps at 100+ mph out on the 2 lanes in Utah passing a semi that is just managing 65 on a grade. The car is just always saying, "I've got 130 in me, up this grade, if you need it, and I'll stick to the road like Super Glue."
Of course, I always say "Thanks, but I'm too old for that sh*t."
I've never before, in 50 years of new cars, had a car that felt so much like it would never, ever, conceivably, in any conditions, leave the road. (Of course, that could be a Siren's call. <G>)
Before getting the E550, I rented/drove the big Cadillac DeVille/DTS and Lincoln Town Taxi many, many times (I'm a BIG person), and tried the BMW series 5. The Caddies would plow into a corner and put you in a ditch while saying "Don't you feel really special?" The BMW would rip my scalp off when getting out (not to mention $600 run-flat tires).
Only the E had the room, style, quality and confidence I needed.
Now, if MB will work on reliability . . .

These cars are made to drive fast on an autobahn in Germany. They just hug the road and it does not seem to matter how fast you go. 250 km/h (155 mph) is fast but it does not feel unsafe. A very comfortable cruising speed 180 km/h (112 mph) does not feel anything at all in these cars.

as a current SS owner, waiting on my E350 (hopefully mid feb), I would have to say the SS is much faster then E550, not to many cars on the road happen to show me their tail lights.
drivers play a huge roll is street racing, i guess you call it "who has the *****" ... to push the limits of what can/will be done on a public road way. until my e350 shows up the SS is ready and willing to take on all and has.

From the tests I've seen, the 1998 Camaro SS was rated at a 13.6 second car stock in manual form with a good driver and 13.8 in auto while the 2010 E550 is rated at 13.3 stock. There are some stock Camaro SS's with very good drivers that go closer to the E550 times but you have got to be a very good driver with great traction.
If you lined them up at a drag strip with stock vs stock, the E550 would win 9/10 times if they were racing an excellent SS driver. If you took the average SS driver, the E550 would win 10/10 times. Of course, there are always exceptions but stock vs stock the E550 is the quicker/faster car the majority of the time due to the excellent transmission and traction control.
