OEM kit install back up camera W212
Dear MB, I have an E-class 200 CDI from 2010. The car doesn't come with backup camera, i decided to buy the original parts and install it my self. before I will do that can anyone give me some hin't how to make all the wires ?
This is the parts I bought:
Backup camera
Part number: A2128201897
Modulator
Part number: A2128270006
Cables
i didn't find on the net the exact model for W212, so I took the one for W164, it is the same if I'm not wrong
as you see in the picture of the cables there is:
- white cable will connect the camera to the Modulator
- The black cable has many connectors:
- The white connector with black and white wires will be connected to the Modulator.
- Fakra cable will go to the comand unit.
- There is Three remaining wires:
- Black, Brown, Red
I think that the white should be connected to the reverse light ?
The red will be connected to the + (SUM), where in the sum should be connected ?
The Brown will be connected to the ground ?
Can anyone could help to confirm this installation ?
I have already activated the backup view mode in the engineering menu

Finally I have found a solution.
Reading some forums I have found this solution:
It seems that mercedes use the same Modulator and camera for couple of here models:
W212 E class / W207 E class coupe / W204 C class.
So i bought on ebay for my car W212 E class:
Modulator : A2128270006 (for W212)
Camera: A2078200897 (for W207)
Camera to Modulator wiring harness: A2044404808 (W204)
Modulator to comand wiring harness: A2044404908 (W204)
The wiring are for a C-klass. The wiring from the camera to the modulator will work.
The second wiring A2044404908 from the modulator to comand will not feet properly.
the connector to the SAM could be not the same. the reverse light connector also could be not the same.
For that reason I have bought a Add-a-fuse to connect to SAM without cutting any cable.
and I bought a Scotchlocks to connect to reverse light without cutting the reverse light cable.
I still did not receive the cables yet. I will put some pictures of the installation.

its very easy in w212..
it should not take more than 2 hours..
depending on which cableset you get, some of them the cable in the green connector that goes behind the comand unit, they have misplaced it wrong from the factory.. so if its in chamber 1, then it needs to be in chamber 2.. its not certain that you will have this problem.. but if it doesnt work after installation, that might be helpfull
remember you must go into engineering mode on the comand to enable rearcam svrc..
it should not take more than 2 hours..

HI Mbworld,
I got the different parts yesterday, and now ready to install. I'm still confused about only one cable, that connect the Modulator to the Camera, I can inverse cable 1 and 2, between the camera and the Modulator (see picture 3). can any one confirm that it is the write connections ?

There is no official retrofit for rear camera for the GLK but there is a retrofit guide for the ultrasonic parking sensors. Also note that the guide I posted for the E-class specifically excludes North American vehicles too.

you also need to decide where to put the camera. the original camera is mounted not in the center but at the right of the license plate light. most people who have installed this camera themselves have chosen the easier way - replacing the right of license plate light with the camera. personally i wouldn't do it that way coz at night your license plate would look funny (one side bright, the other dark).
i have some photos of this installation (also show where the wiring should connect in the back of COMAND APS), but it's on a different PC and i won't be able to access it for another 2 months. if you're not in a rush (sure seems you're not) i will post some photos later on.

I changed my mind on the location of the camera and am ordering a new camera that I can place closer to the middle.
I need to order a new trunk lid handle (the black plastic that holds the 2 back up lights and trunk handle) does anybody know what the part number is (2011 W212 Sport).
