Facelift steering wheel in w212

Sorry if this has been up proberly a million times, i tried using the search function but couldnt really find anything...

I just bought a 2011 W212 and I want to put the 2013 AMG P30 steering wheel in the car, I did the same thing in my W204 that ive just sold, and i needed to change the steering column electronics in order to get the light in the buttons to work..

however in my W212 there is automatic transmission, so ive bought the steering wheel with shiftpads, is it just plug and play maybe some coding, or does the steering electronics needs to be replaced here aswell ?

Hey, you may wanna take a gander at this topic :

https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...el-change.html

No pita but once you plug and play is done as soon as you start the engine you are gonna see ----------- , don't freak out just press the back button (top left hand side )
My service reminder also converted to days rather than mileage but after a 2nd removal of airbag with the cables were still attached then it went back to kilometers option which is cool lol

Take it easy ,enjoy

Only MBs - the best or nothing
BenzV12, could you please provide part numbers for both the steering wheel and the airbag.

This is part # to mine :

Here's the part # A172 460 48 03 9E38

Another number 57554/0028 LENKRAD Steering Wheel

This number A172 suggests me that this steering wheel is made for SLK 55 AMG

Bear in mind, OP's has a different version and if your stock steering wheel has some options such as heating, vibration this part # will not become compatible with yours

Sorry, I don't have airbag # but anything with that shape can fit easily . I also swapped the aluminum trim (AMG Logo bottom) but have not updated the topic I posted

I don't mean to raise bad blood here but wanted to give my opinion about this.

A steering wheel like this looks cheap in a car like W212 in my opinion. It looks like some NASCAR wheel which is made cheap as it does not need to do anything else than turn the wheels. Need to have a real sports car with a wheel like this. And again, this is my personal opinion.

I drive a E550, which based on power, qualifies as a sports car at least compared to some other makes but I would never have a steering wheel like this in it. It is far more impressive to have someone sit in it and notice the power of the engine when the inside and out looks not that sporty.
That raises the question in the passenger's mind of how fast are those Mercedes cars that really look sporty...

My two current MB's have the AMG package with the sport steering wheel. It is very comfortable to drive with the thumbs at ten and two. It makes a good match with bright aluminum pedals and the AMG body cladding and wheels.

On the negative side, I lost the standard heated steering wheel. It is not available on this steering wheel. Due to our climate, I would trade for the regular wheel.

so did you need to replace the steering column or was it plug-and-play? The reason I’m asking is about the same exact steering wheel and I have a 2011 E550 and I wasn’t sure if I can just install this new steering wheel and use my original steering column. Any help would be appreciated before I do the swap. Thanks guys.

Mine was plug and play . You can also use W177 A Class Sedan steering wheel but it may need coding
