Another iPod Question...
I did some searching and didn't find anything conclusive here. The manual wasn't clear either...
So - I have a 5th Gen iPod - Model MA444LL (no A). When I plug it in (2010 E550), I get a "Incompatible Device" message. I assume it is what it is and I need a newer iPod?
Thanks

This happens quite a bit with the iPods. Whenever it does happen, I usually reboot the iPod (Hold the center button and menu button at the same time for 10 seconds) and then re-connect. The dealer doesn't seem to have a fix. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. My iPod may be older - it's a "30gb" model - so still not sure if it's supported.
I did try a reboot - no change. Interestingly, I can be driving along listening to Sirius, and all of a sudden "USB 9" pops up and it starts playing songs from my iPod. It seems to be in shuffle mode and I can change songs, but have no control of folders. Some of the songs list artist/song, some don't. Next time I try to access from the menu, I get device unsupported. Weird.
So, can I simply request update NTG 4.5 along with a symptom of dropped cell connectivity, or do I need to be even more vague with my request?

NTG 4.0 and 4.5 are completely different systems with different SW levels and different chipsets.

FYI, there is no software update to "NTG 4.5". Next Telematics Generation 4.5 refers to generation of telematics hardware. I would assume what you mean is a software update of NTG 4.0 which is what is equipped in the OP's vehicle.

I am well aware of the document you posted. It is a guide for dealers what telematics flashware discs to keep in relation to the available NTG's and available XENTRY software.

So - the issue is resolved. The cable supplied with the car was the wrong version/PN apparently. They replaced and it works on both my iPod as it should.
Had to tell my service manager I was not happy as:
So, in summary - he wasn't truthful about testing other iPods. Was wrong about older iPod support. I bought an un-needed iPod. Not happy!
I settled for a set of (free) all-weather MB floor mats, and a change of preferred service reps...
Had to tell my service manager I was not happy as:
- I asked about the issue initially, and he said the older iPods were not supported (hence pouring over the forums for an authoritative answer)
- When I went back in for another minor issue, I asked if he would look in to it. He reported they tried several iPods they had there (forgot to bring mine) and they all worked.
- So I went out and bought a used Gen 5 iPod. Same issue.
- Brought the car in this week specifically for the iPod issue. Low and behold, they find the wrong cable installed....
