air suspension question - sport package

Hello,

I am looking to buy a 2010 E550 4MATIC with P2 and the sport package. I have a few questions...

The car comes with air suspension standard, right?
An air suspension controller can be bought to control ride height correct?
Does the sport package get rid of the air suspension?
If air suspension is removed bc of the sport package, will the ride height look okay with 19" wheels? I do not want to have to change the suspension to lower the vehicle. Air suspension would be so much nicer.

Thanks in advance!

2010 E550
I just picked up a 2010 E550 P2 4MATIC Sport and it's fantastic. I drove many E350's before my decision and the engine and airmatic suspension really make a difference to me. I had a 2003 S500 so I'm used to the ride quality and to me the E550 feels so much nicer.

Yes

Not sure about this, but there is a button to raise the car another inch or so if you want.

Does the sport package get rid of the air suspension?
No, there is a sport/comfort mode that helps with shifting, but I like the comfort mode all the time.

Not sure this is an option, but just get the car. It's amazing.

There are actually two Sports/Comfort settings. One is for the transmission, the other for suspension.

Suspension in Sports mode lowers the car slightly compared to the Comfort mode. It also stiffens the shocks.

The car also automatically lower even more when driving. This is speed dependent but I don't know at what speed it does what?

There also is a raised position for the car, which is handy when parking to avoid those concrete "stoppers" in the lost.

If you buy it make sure you get it CPO.

One thing to check is if the car had the air springs changed in the rear. It is a very common problem with 2010 models and MB has a TSB for this. You need to carefully monitor the car after it sits over night to see if the rear lowers. There is some issue with air leak and change of the air springs fixes this. I had this and after the change no issue at all.

Great car!!

Pre-2012 E550's have Airmatic standard.
There are several options to lower an airmatic E550 and you are correct, using an aftermarket controller is one of them.
The sport package is just an appearance package for the E550 so the suspension is the same for the Sport and Lux package E550.
Good luck and post pics if you get it.

Does your father's car have Airmatic or ABC? My understanding is that ABC is vastly superior to Airmatic....

The reason I ask is b/c, if you expect your Airmatic equipped E-class to ride or handle like an ABC-equipped S-class, you might be in for an unpleasant surprise....

I added a Renntech V3 Lowering Module to adjust the ride height and lower the car by 1" all the way around. Works great with the standard E550 Airmatic suspension

I see, well to be honest I wouldn't expect the same level of ride quality considering the S class is a more expensive car. thanks for the heads up! I will have to put my plans to buy a car on hold for now though
