Question Items to be repaired by Dealer before Warranty Expires??

Hello, I am a newbie to this site as well as to Mercedes. I just purchased a2010 E550 this past weekend. The "New" car warranty is about to expire in less than 3k miles so I want to try and get as much fixed by dealer as possible. There is a DVD stuck in the head unit, and thanks to this site, I am going to have the wood replaced due to fading. Are there any must do's, or tips you can offer to have looked at/repaired? Thank you for your time and help with saving some money. These cars are sweet.

congrats and welcome, stale-bread ! i don't think the dealer will repair/fix anything if there is nothing wrong with the car even if you tell them to check. but doesn't mean you can ask. if you have a good relationship with them, they'll probably have some extra works done and trying to keep you as a loyal customer.

Will do El Cid and thanks BM2BZ!

I am a bit confused as to what is/will be covered. Here is what I have for warranty. I am told the "New Car warranty" expires after 4/50,000 miles (I'm at 46,700), then the "CPO warranty" adds another year from in service date, and then i purchased an additional 2 year "Extended Warranty." I'm unsure what will be covered/not covered when the New Car warranty expires. I traded in my BMW 650 Convertible due to end of warranty and the out of pocket costs were crazy ($2800.00 for a headlight replacement). Thanks for the responses!

If nothing else, just take the car in and tell service advisor that you want X,Y,Z checked out. I would look at the serious issues that showed up in Stickies, such as engine noise, wood fading, COMAND, etc. Of course, previous owner may have had all this checked out if you have the maintenance records.
Then you at least have a work order documenting that you took the car in while under warranty.
Would also be a good time to sit in car, go through Operator's and COMAND manuals and make sure things you will use do work. For example, my Easy Exit/Entry stopped functioning and took dealer 2 days to repair after the part came in. Lots of labor and computer stuff was involved.
Easy Exit/Entry has to be selected and it causes the steering wheel to go up when you turn off the car and then come back down to your chosen position when you start the car.
Is your extended warranty with MBUSA? They should have given you a document showing what is and is not covered.

Did you purchase an extended warranty? If you are the second owner of the car, you can still buy an extended warranty.

Thank you El Cid. I am about to do exactly that right now. There are a few issues that the forum has made me notice. Even if they are minor, I think it is worth reporting since I'm planning on having this car for at least 4 years.

The important thing is to have the deaer write up the issues. This can be very useful shouldthe parts fail after the warranty. When you call MB they are often more amicable to post warranty repairs if they were registered as complaints that the dealer was unable resolve during warranty. I truly had no issues with my E350. I hope yours ends up being as good as mine.

STL-B the original warranty goes first, then the extended takes it on after the original warranty expires.

stale-bread, my first MB had lost its 4/50K mile warranty due to years. It was a 2008 with about 30,000 miles on it when I traded it in late 2012. When the factory warranty ended and CPO warranty kicked in, I noticed no difference at all. It was covered bumper to bumper, still and I was still getting stuff replaced...mostly trim pieces, etc.

I would have every squeak and rattle looks at and repaired. The car was released back in 2010 with various squeaks and rattles from around the nav head unit, to the trim on the dash, to the rear window and sunscreen if so equipped. As well as the rattle from the hood where it rested on the bump-stops.

Another serious issue is water penetration into the HVAC system which could cause mold growth. If it smells a bit funky, chances are it has an issue. Check for rotor warpage and updates to the nav system.

Check the wheels. If it has the AMG package the car will ride stiff. Check for damage with wheels. Keyless Go also has some issues. Like any used or new car, there care be problems.

Use extra precautions. I would rather go new, as you have the lemon law to back you up. On cars with this much complexity, I'd never buy a used car as you do not have lemon protection.

The E can be one heck of a car. Make sure you are willing, just like any used car to sign on the line.

Thanks Grau,
Before you responded I had the car brought in for the faded wood trim which was quite obvious. I actually mentioned to the service advisor that my rotors vibrate when braking on highway and are very squeaky at even 10mph or less. She said its just deposits wearing off. I was irratated with her response but had to go back to work. I'm actually emabaressed when I pick up my GF and my Mercedes squeals. I'm really a knowledgable car guy(this is my 27th), and fortunately only once experienced squeaky brakes due to purchasing low dust pads back in the late 90's. I've had slotted brakes as well and never experienced this pulsing at normal highway breaking speeds. Thanks to you mentioning this, I have found that Im not the only one who is frustrated by this issue. I will be bringing this car back shortly to see what "My" advisor has to say now. Just like BMW, they prefer me to work with one advisor rather than multiple at my local dealership. Another annoyance. Fun car though!

I had a similar issue with an "assigned" SA. I ended up 'trying out' a few SA's until I found one that spoke my language.

I recommend asking for a different advisor that provides the service levels you expect. If a service manager doesn't under stand that, I would shop for another dealer.

Stale-Bread, I got rid of my last MB for this reason. I had an '08 with about 30K miles on it I think. The dealer went out of their way to fix my squealing brakes. They were so upset that they could not get to the bottom of it. They gave me new rotors, new pads, lubed this, tightened that, reset the pads, cut the pads, etc etc. This went on for about 3 months and finally....I got tired of the embarrassment. It only happened those last two seconds before the car came to a complete stop. Needless to say, I traded the car in. I think it was just that car....it happens sometimes. But I didn't think twice...I got another MB.

Be careful about relying on Lemon Laws. Each state has a different one, with California's being the most owner friendly. Here in South Carolina, it requires that car cannot be driven at all or operated safely and cannot be repaired. "Safely" is judgement of an arbitrator or judge and likely to side with manufacturer.

+1 for CA lemon law ...

I would make friends with your SA/SM and work patiently through them as they can be your best friend or worst enemy.

Thank you Nuru and El Cid for your advice. Your absolutely correct Sam King about making friends/friendly with the Service Manager. I've become good pals with my BMW Service Manager. They really do want to make the customer happy. It's all about the customer's approach/attitude.
