OEM Roof Racks...are they worth the price?
Picked up a couple of paddle boards last week and looking at carrying options for my E. For those of you with them...how do you like them? Are they easy to install / remove? What do you carry with them (accessories) ?
For those that have gone an alternate route...what do you have and how well do they work?
Thanks in advance for your input.

the OEM racks are easy to use, do not sit on the roof and look great!

$238... Need to check with my dealer on pricing. That seems pretty fair considering the Yakima rack is $290 and doesn't look nearly that good.

You have had too much fun building your 550 and now the CLS. Both are drop dead gorgeous. The "land yacht" feel of the S is nice but I can't see you adapting away from a luxury sport ride. Maybe an S63...oops did I say that out loud?

Now that's the Hype I know. I wonders when I saw your comment on getting the 40k service down in 6k miles...that's past summer for you.

I actually really like my 2011, the hockey LED's would be hard to part with....nothing else out there has anything like them, although there have been some close copy-cats...and also, I have put a lot of work into it and someone mentioned still wouldn't mind having the Pcar gone........maybe I can trade that for something else

Here's my 2cents worth. I'm a kayaker. I've purchased Thule original black "square" universal racks. You can not open your moonroof with all the wind noise they create. On a prior BMW I had purchased the Thule "Aero" racks. They are quieter, but they whistled fairly loudly over 30 mph. I returned these for the OEM BMW parts and they were incredibly quiet. They actually had small plastic wind "diffusers" on them. A quality product. I recently took this photo of a 350 with OEM Mercedes rack because I wanted to see how they appeared. I'm probably going to purchase them, and they looked pretty much identicle to the BMW. I would recommend going with OEM based on what I have experienced and I think ordering from Parts.com, you may pay the same or less than the Euro from Thule, and enjoy a much quieter ride.
Umm. Forgive me for being new but I'm having trouble figuring out how to post a/the pic.

found some pix from last year....
I think they're great, and don't rest on the roof either, hope this helps anyone looking at the OEM basic roof rack

Think I need a set for my E and the wife's ML... OEM is definitely the way to go. Your pics sold me over the Yakima.

I have the MB racks for my 2011 E350. I carry the large roof cargo container sometimes. I believe in buying things as a "system" because they are engineered to work together.
The racks/cargo container are speed limited when empty at 110 MPH. Driving across country with the container full at + highway speeds, I had no worries. The racks can be used for bikes, snow boards, etc. No issues with radio/nav reception to worry about. No issues with noise. They were slightly noiser than without, but not much.
