That lit up star would clearly be considered front lighting and ilegal - hence it only works while in park.
In addition, when looking at the photos, they could be confused with emergency lighting - that would also make it illegal and a "have a seat in the back of my cruiser while we sort this out" offense.

Or does O/P actually at least have it and asking a question as a first hand user?
I'm confuzzled.

why are you confused about an illuminated star??
the star illuminates......
First step to reappearing is leaving the Illuminated Star to the EBay crowd as it was, IMO.
If O/P actually HAS the Illuminated Star, then I apologize for my opinion, but hey I'm not responding to a "Yo look at my dope azz Illuminated Star yo!" thread so I don't feel guilty.
FMVSS has no authority over aftermarket accessories. There are tons of aftermarket accessories and parts than a manufacturer would be prohibited from installing from the factory, but are perfectly legal on the road.
Further, cops have no authority to enforce FMVSS (nor are they even aware of its requirements, because it's irrelevant to vehicles on the road).

That's completely correct.

Cops can certainly enforce vehicle standards and do so on a routine basis. That "tail light out" is a violation of the FMVSS and is a legitimate reason for pulling someone over and ticketing them. However, like you said, most cops aren't aware of all the rules and clearly do selective enforcement. If you or I have a burnt out bulb, it is most likely that the cop will up next to us at a stoplight, roll down win day and say "hey, buddy, you got a burned out taillight. You'll want to get that fixed soon" while they may pull over that beat up Civic with the 4 guys inside and the loud music for the same offense. Depending on the vibes they get that too can result in a warning or an impound for faulty equipment.
That star clearly violates the FMVSS and would be a ticketable offense (unsafe or non conforming equipment) - getting stopped for it is another question.

Actually I just printscreened the image from this video.
Moving from the 2013 to a 2014, I've heard nothing but satisfaction but to each their own. I think it looks sick as it's grown upon me; this is coming from someone who wanted a luxury ornament star again at first. To be honest, would love to have both if I could
