E350 Buying Guide - Pricing Question

Hi all,
I'm in the market for a 2011 E350 and would like your input/advice.

Below are my preferences:
CPO E350 2011 or newer
Preferably under 30K miles
Black exterior/black interior - not too crazy about the cashmere, ivory, almond colors
4MATIC
Sports Package
Premium 1

In the Chicagoland area, the closest I've come to is 42,000 for about 29,000 miles. If I broaden my search location to within 150 miles, I'm finding cars with:
Premium 2 package
Panorama sunroof
Parking assist
115v Power Outlet
Driving Dynamic Front Seats (not sure what this is)

The premium 2 package is a take it or leave it deal, but I like the blind spot feature in it.

I've also found that the price of the cars with more features, but farther away are almost $5,000 less (advertised price). Found one is Michigan with an advertised price of $39K

Can someone advice on whether it makes sense to get this car from a different state? I live in Chicago with a Merc dealership about 20 minutes away. If I buy this car from a different state, is there a difference in the service I would receive when I go to the Chicago service center?

Thanks!

i bought my 2011 E350 4matic last weekend for 36k. black on all black interior with the AMG wheels and P1. I searched for a while and that was the best deal I could find for that exact combo. 31k miles too.

Thanks so much for the info... definitely helps me determine what the price should be. The 2011 E350 4matic with sports package, P1 and 29K miles was 42K(listed) in Chicago. They brought it down to 40,300, but still not low enough.

In Michigan, 150miles away, there's one with P2, 28K miles, etc for $39,000(listed). I hope I can bring the price down about 2 to 3K. Problem is I have to drive to Michigan. Then again, maybe it's a blessing as I'll have 2 hours of a sweet ride.

Congrats on your car, I bet you're loving it.

Also, did you take advantage of the 2% financing? What about extended warranty - how much was that? These dealers can be so shady and it's hard to tell whether or not you're getting shafted.

i flew out to south dakota, the road trip back to mi was really fun.

i financed with my credit union for 1.99%, been with them for years and they treat me great.

did not do an extended warranty, i figure i have 19k miles of the warranty left so i will know by then if i want to keep it. i bought an extended warranty for my C class and never used it. i baby my cars and drive real low miles.

this car is awesome man, def get one soon. everything is laid out perfectly and it drives like a dream.

I've bought two cars from out of state (I live in Vernon Hills, FWIW). One in Birmingham, AL and the another in Ft. Lauderdale. There's nothing like getting on a plane and flying to see a car - it's kinda like you're on a mission, the rush of anticipation is fantastic. I drove the Alabama car back to Chicago, and had the Florida car shipped. Even if you had to pay $1,000 for covered shipping, you're still well ahead of the game. And why not rent a car to go up to Michigan. Worst case is that you just drive home in a rental and lose 4 hours of drivetime.....

But I'm confused.....are you looking for P2 only or would you settle for P1 - doesn't seem clear from your post.

I'm okay with a P1 but liked that the P2 includes blind spot assist. It also has panorama sunroof - not sure if I'll like it, but hey, it's there.

My only concern is the asking price is 39,000 and I'm wondering why as other cars with P1 are within the 41k range. Also, the car has had 2 owners - the second owner for 7 months and the dealer says it was because the second owner needed a short-term car while waiting for his new car to arrive.

Kind of shocked by the low inventory of cars, though. I wanted black/black, 2011, less than 30k miles, and I get less than 10 available in a 200 mile radius.

It sounds like you're hesitant to expand your search radius, but you might have to in order to get more of what you're looking for. FWIW, I'm searching California and Texas for two reasons: A) I want a non-winter (no salt) car, and B), Illinois and a few midwest states are notorious for using Biodiesel rather than pure diesel. MB sent out a brochure announcing that the warranty is void if the car is in need of a fuel filter / fuel line cleaning if they see that biodiesel is the culprit - and that's a $4k-$5k repair. Buying a car that far away sounds like a hassle (though IMO it's a short-term hassle), but it will allow me to not only baseline the car's "season use" but also its fuel history. Besides, more and more 2011s should be coming off their two-year leases, so as the year goes on you should be able to find more cars coming up, especially nice CPO examples.
