Subscription needed to receive traffic data?
So do we require a sirius subscription in order to receive real time traffic data into our command system?
I'm only 3 months into my 6 month trial, got a call from sirius today asking me if I want to renew service. Told them I don't listen to satellite radio, they asked if I use navigation and I said yes, they said in order for me to continue to receive traffic info, I would have to renew my sirius subscription after the 6 month trial.
Is that true?
On my 2011 C300 that doesn't have the full command navigation system, (some weird system that requires you to hold down the back button for like 15 seconds before it brings up navigation menu) it has real time traffic data and we don't have sirius or any other subscription. (and its 2 years old).

On my 2010 E350, I have a contract with Sirius for both audio and a separate one for Traffic as there are two receivers in this year's head unit. For the newer E350's I believe that there is only the one receiver that can receive both music, traffic and weather.
However, a way I found to get the Sirius for the least amount of $$$ was to let the trial period end, then call their customer retention center (I think that's what they call it) agents and let them offer you a much cheaper deal. Try calling (1-888-601-6302) them and see what kind of deal you can get.

what bugs me is in the C300 I don't have command but the lower end navigation has free traffic for life while in the E350 with command I have to pay a subscription to get traffic info?

I only pay for the traffic not radio and it cost me $3.50 a month. I generally pay for the entire year. Traffic and traffic alerts are separate than the radio. When I got my 2012 E250 Sport I could not transfer my service from my Infiniti M35 because the call center was in the Philippines and they were lost and could not steer from the script they used. After three separate people I told them to cancel my current subscription. So I cancelled my service and then signed up for the free six month. The free service did not include the traffic so I called again (during normal hours and hot a US person) and asked for traffic only and it cost me 14 bucks for six months. I still got Sirius for free but had to pay for traffic. For me, that is the best part of SAT radio. My suggestion is call during normal working hours and get the US customer service and it should be a breeze.

I am a bit annoyed with the trend from higher end companies going to Sirius traffic when the same information is available for free from Clearchannel.
My 2009 BMW had traffic supplied by Clearchannel and the newer BMWs now have the Sirius traffic.
My 2012 Acura has Sirius traffic while my wife's 2012 Honda has Clearchannel. The traffic information for the greater DC area appears identical.
It is obvious that SiriusXM is paying manufacturers to include their receivers. I refuse to pay for traffic data when it is available from a multitude of free sources on cell phones (Blackberry Traffic, Waze, Google maps etc)

I subscribe to traffic and not music, it is like $40/year.
I can get music for $90/year in our Honda minivan, but oh a Mercedes is 2x that, and no movement on price.
So, Pandora is free.

they told me I could have just weather or traffic........I'm confused....
while the radio is worthless, the weather and traffic are quite handy to have, even though I haven't had them in a while
