Banged up wheel...replace or anyway to fix?
Hey guys. So i moved to a new house a couple weeks ago, and the curbs are a couple inches higher then I'm used to....so while parking the other day i banged up the wheel rather bad hitting the curb. In addition to some scrapes on my rim i looked and saw a nice chunk of the tire itself is ripped back. At first i thought it would be an instant flat but pressures held mostly for the last few days. This morning tho i got the low pressure warning, but its still upper 20s (27/28) which is low...but not flat. I had been planning on buying a set of winter tires end of this season so ideally don't want to have to shell out for a new set of summer/all seasons for only a couple months use before then getting winters. I'm curious if anyone knows of a way to maybe patch this up? My thought had been to just pour super glue in it and see how that goes....
PS sorry for the poor pics, i can retake more later

Here is a link that says it "may" be possible with the right tire shop.

I do understand not wanting to replace all 4, but why not just this one?

ouch, that stinks.....
I agree with -bread, get a replacement, maybe find a used in that size
to help hold you over until the new tire season.....
if it were up a bit higher on the sidewall you might be able to slide by.....
but that's a bad spot.....surprised it's holding the air for you....
good luck and congrats on the new diggs

Look quickly, because that tire is an accident waiting to happen. Whenever you have damage like this, you are open to a catastrophic tire failure where that area fails immediately.

Can anyone confirm quick if these would work? my options are $1100 from dealer, $750 from tirerack, or those......Or alternatively just buying 2 for the front and halving the cost, buying a winter set in a couple months, then the final 2 next spring.....
oops *edit* just noticed those are 235/255 staggered set. I need 4x 245/40R18, right?

Well, it can look bad but always is not.
I had an incident where I drove over a metal bar on the interstate highway at 70 mph speed. Could not avoid hitting it as it was right across the lane and other cars next to me. Saw it too late to stop. I almost got away with it but hit the end of the bar, which made a nasty cut on the side wall of the driver side rear tire. The cut was about 1 1/2" wide and about 1" long. It was like you would have cut it with a sharp knife trying to cut the rubber away from the structure.
I stopped at the first tire service place I could find wanting to buy a new tire for it. For a big surprise after the tire guy looked at it he said that certainly he can sell me a new tire but a $3 super glue will do just fine.
He said that if the cut does not expose any reinforcement inside the side wall you have not compromised the tire and just gluing the "flap" with super glue will do just fine.
As I had expressed my desire to buy a new tire and then the guy tells me I don't need to I believed him. I bought a tube of super glue and glued the flap back down. Never had a problem, never leaked air. Drove the tire another 10 000 miles when it was time to change for wear.

so you can't find one used to get you buy?
guess it might be tough to find just one eh?
if you're going to buy new ones soon anyway, I'd try to get just one to save money

Ive looked around online, craigs, ebay, etc, no stores locally even source them. If it was possible id buy a single used one to replace the damaged one....but havent had any luck finding any.

If you don't need the same make/model tire, how about something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/ONE-NICE-PIRELLI-P-ZERO-ROSSO-245-40-18-P245-40R18-245-40-18-TIRE-22161-Q-/300949566558?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Tires&hash=item4611fdf45e&vxp=mtr
$57 for a used tire in 245/40/18
If its temporary it should be ok.

I have a used Pzero Nero 245/40-18 with about 4/32" wear left. This is to that cross bar at the bottom of the grooves, i.e. The height of that bar is in addition to this.
Long time ago i posted that i will give it away but nobody has asked for it.
I still have it and it is yours if you want it. Just pay shipment.
You said you set up appointment to replace fronts so perhaps you can't cancel it?

My tire is now on FedEx hands to be delivered up north. Happy to be helping a fellow MB driver.
I lost one on front for a side wall puncture and I did not have time to wait for a P zero Nero that my local guy would have to order. So I went with the Firestone they had as next day. Wide Ovals (have them in rear too now) have been better than the P zeros but I know about some better tires I will get next time.
I know the pain of spending money for a stupid one tire failing that requires buying both on the axle...
