Extended warranty

I have a 2011 E350 with 20,000 miles on it. Next September the warranty will be done (purchased in September 2010). What are the options for extending the warranty - i.e. is there a 50k / 6 year option? What kind of money are we talking about for a real MB bumper to bumper extended warranty (same as first four years)? Won't consider some non MB warranty company.

It's going to be based on the terms of mileage and duration. Since you don't have much mileage on the car, you could be looking at just extending the duration. I would expect at least 2K, no more than 4K? Just a guess of course.

I also understand that there are STILL some items that are coverered in and during the original warranty, that won't be covered under even a genuine MB extendeded warranty.

the least costly will be be 7 yr 75k miles. I don't think they offer anything less than 75k miles.
you should be able to get it for about $2k.

Give Dan Boone @ MB of Austin a call. Myself and several others have gotten good deals from him on extended warranty.

Thought I didn't drive my car much. My car was purchased in in November 2010 and has about the same mileage.

Ill be in the same boat as you in a couple months.

I saw another thread that talked about the same thing in W212. Heard a lot of good referrals about this same Dan Boone thenew3 mentioned above.

Let me know how it goes as I will probably purchase similar soon as well.

Link to other thread about warranties in the same W212 forum

Definitely something to think about. I bought mine the same month, Sept. 2010. I only have 12,500 miles, so far. I'll probably start putting more miles on it now that I'm down to one car.

Got the 7 year for $2889 through dealer. Mileage is not consideration for me. All things considererd preferred to go through dealer with whom I do all my servicing and where I purchased the car.

When you guys are stating you got the 7 years for XXXX, dont you already have 4 or possibly 5 years of coverage and actually only paying for the additional 2 years?

Also, You can get it cheaper than that.. I read the number of post concerning warranty options and who to contact, I called the dealership I purchased my car from and informed them I have a offer cheaper than the $2500+ they were asking for the additional 2yrs 3500 (total 7yrs 135k). I told them my offer was $1840 and they matched it.

Every new MB sold in the USA comes with 4yr/50k mile warranty. a CPO would extend that to 5yr/100k.

So if you are purchasing a 7yr/xxx mile extended warranty on a new vehicle, you would be extending it 3 years and however many miles you bought. on a CPO it would be 2 years and however many miles above 100k.

but do keep in mind the extended warranty is not a bumper to bumper like the original 4yr/50k warranty. There are some exclusions. But it does cover all major items.

I didn't realize there are exclusion. So the 2 years 35k for a total of 7yrs 135 for 1840 is a great deal in comparison to what others have received. what are people potential paying $5000 for that others on this site are getting for $2600+ thru contacts noted... the same I just got for 1840?

Most people don't realize there are exclusions until they need to use the warranty and then get a repair bill.

go to mbusa, they have a document that lists the exclusions in fine prints. (or the dealer that sold you the warranty should be able to tell you what is excluded).

you say 2 years so I assume you have a CPO vehicle. $1840 isn't bad.

The warranty is actually through MBUSA so the charge should be standard. However, dealers have option to add up 15% surcharge. Mine chose not to.
The $2,889 extension extends the 4yr./50,000 mile warranty to 7 yrs./75,000 (?) miles. It covers everything the original warranty covers.
Just make sure you are getting an MBUSA warranty.

Dealer markup is a lot more than 15% on these extended warranties. I've seen dealers mark them up 100% or more.

FYI I got my 7yr/75k MBUSA extended for $2100 on 2013 E350 wagon. Dealer wanted close to $5k (said it was fixed by MBUSA and non-negotiable) I got it from another dealer for less than 1/2 the price. plus if I had purchased it within 30 days of buying my car then it would've been less than $1900.

Correct me if I misunderstand MB extended limited warranties (ELW).

There are two types of ELWs.
First is applies to non-CPO vehicle, these ELWs are available to all before the original warranty period expires. Terms are 5 to 7 yrs and mileage vary 75K to 125K. You pick the years and mileage and it acts like an extension of the factory warranty. Example would be 7 years/100K means 7 years or 100K mile, which ever comes first.
Second type is CPO ELW. These are available in +1 or +2 year terms after the MBCPO Limited Warranty (1 yr and up to 100K) is over. The +1 yr corresponds to a max of 120K miles. The +2 yr corresponds to a max of 135K miles.

These two types are exclusive of each other. If you qualify for one type, you can not buy the other.

Someone buying a CPO +2/135K is not anywhere the same as someone that has a 7yr/125K. For example, someone buys a CPO (4 yr @25K) that just ran out of New Vehicle Warranty. The CPO car automatically comes with one additional year or 100K which ever comes first. If a +2 was purchased as well, you first go thru the MBCPO Limited warranty for the first yr then the +2 starts. So, you could drive it for 3 years and put a total of 110K on it. Nice.
Someone buying a new car can buy a max of 7yr/125K.
High mileage drivers do better with CPO ELW!!!

Why would you pay $2900 for a MB warranty for total of 7 years and up to 75000 miles when you can get MB warranty for total of 7 years and up to 135000 miles for $2640, which is what I did?

Arrie,
Is your car a CPO? What exactly does your warranty state?

My car is a CPO.

I don't know what you mean by what it state. I undertand it is the same warranty as you get with the CPO car but extended thru two more years and up to 135000 miles.

I'm under the same impression. The additional two years giving me 7yrs 135k is no different that the current extended 1 year CPO (5yrs 100K)

Dan Boone (MB Austin) would have done the 7/75 for $2189. You paid full price.

Extending an MBCPO, 135K is the maximum. FYI, there was a cost to certifying.
Extending an MB New Car Warranty, 125K is the maximum.
El Cid probably couldn't buy your warranty because his was not a CPO.
