Rear end noise
I have just put a 1000 miles on my 14 e350 and I'm hearing a noise coming from the back. At about 45 and above its more noticeable. I have made an appointment to see the dealer next week i just hope its under warranty my regular mechanic put it on the lift to check and saw nothing noticeable said it might be a bearing. Anybody else have such an experience.

Is your car 4 MATIC ? Because last week I talked to a W212 E350 4 MATIC Owner and he said there was a noise coming from the back and it turned out to be a differential noise

Your description of the noise is pretty basic... a "noise"
metallic? Grinding? squeaking? constant? intermittent? with bumps? Unrelated to bumps in the road? worse with acceleration? worse in the cold?
and coming from the back -- interior exterior? louder with windows open?
I don't have any rear end noise on mine, hope you get yours resolved.

The hum can be from the drive shaft too. Just poorly balanced shaft can give you a humming noise. It can also be a bearing issue on the drive shaft U-joints. If the noise gets worse over time it is an indication of the bearing getting worse, if it is the drive shaft issue.
If the noise comes from the differential it is either a bearing problem, which is not likely but possible, or it is improperly set gear tooth backlash. This can be too much or not enough.
Does the noise appear right from the start of driving? If it does not but then appears after some distance of driving it can very well be too tight setup of the gear wheels.
Backlash is needed so that it allows room for the gear wheels to grow under heat expansion. If backlash is set too tight the teeth of the wheels bottom up between the wheels creating the noise but more importantly creating a very high surface load on the gear wheels that will make the gear wheels fail prematurely.
I have my second E-class and neither one made any noise from the rear differental of drive shaft. It is not normal.
Take your car for a test drive with the mechanic from your dealer and let him hear the noise.
Checking the balancing of the drive shaft is probably the easiest step in troubleshooting this but the mechanic may know what it is based on the noise.

agreed -- get a tech to drive with you, if they didn't already, and see if they register the hum that it's producing.. not normal... my E is whisper quiet back there, and yours should be as well

I had same/similar problem
High pitched whine at 45 and 75 under light acceleration. They replaced the rear end twice on my 2014 E350 - no change. I think it is the center bearing or a drive shaft out of balance. They hear it and cannot fix it. They say it is "a characteristic" so they can get around the lemon law in California.
