Trying to figure out my wheel & tire situation
Hello everyone,
I have a 2010 E350 4matic. I have just lowered it 40mm with Vogtland springs. Im trying to figure out my wheel situation. I have 20 x 9 35 offset all around. I test fitted the front wheel and it is poking out, the rear is not a problem. There is about an inch of space between the wheel and the strut assembly. I didn't think it would stick out this far, with it fully lowered the wheel protrudes about 8 to 5mm dependent on where you look from. I am thinking of either having the wheels milled down on the back pad 3 - 5mm(looks sketchy) or send them back for 40 offset but I'm not convinced it will fit without any rubbing issues. I use this car as my commuter and i drive about 180miles a day so i don't want to much hassle when it comes to the aggressive stance wheels. I also went with a square setup so i could rotate the wheels.
From most of the searches I've done here most are running 20 x 8.5 38 to 40 offset with w 235/35 20 or 245/30 20. Do you think I will definitely rub with a 20 x 9 40 with a 235/35 20 up front? Im hoping someone with a 9inch front can shed some light on this, offset used and how much space they have to the fender.
Im at the point where I'm going to just get another set of wheels.
I attached some pics of what i have.

Wow surprised no one responded. Just an update rotiform confirmed that 4mm can be shaved off backpad. I then confirmed also from a local wheel machining company that 4mm is capable. There is a requirement by law which I found is there is a min of 8mm between backpad and bolt perch.

Now I'm nervous, I was advised to go with 20x9 38 (flush with fender) and run 225/35/20 because I wanted to also lower my 2012 E350 4M. Unfortunately, I don't have them installed yet but should be done some time this week.

Relax, nothing to be nervous about. You did a search and found the information
Ur looking for but second guessed it. You even said everybody is running 235/35 but decided to do 225
20 x 9 et38 235/35 20
20 x 10 et40 275/30 20
Lowered 1.5in - Flush Fitment, No Rubbing
2013 E350 4matic

Personally I think 20x9 35et sits perfectly flush up front. I wouldn't go any higher in et. And once dropped the camber will go negative giving more spacing between the wheel and front fenders. Did you rub with 20x9 35et? Is that why you want to shave off the et.
