2013 E550 muffler delete

I have searched and read everything I can find on a muffler delete for the 2012+ E550 specifically. I still would like to know the following if someone has done it on a 2012+
How loud will just a muffler delete be?
Will there be a lot of drone?
Is there any increase in horsepower?
What is the sound like? Muscle car v8 or more high pitched?

I am assuming that the 2012+ e550's will sound different with no muffler because of the turbos and would like to hear from someone who has done this.
Thanks in advance

Not done this, don't even own a 550, but will offer some thought based on years of BMW and Porsche ownership.

My first question is what are you trying to accomplish? If you are looking for more "noise" form your car then bolt on a nice complete stainless steel aftermarket catback system. Or research various mufflers and tailpipes, pick the ones you like and then go to a local muffler shop and have them custom bend the pipes and you bring your muffler(s) so that they can attach them and the the tailpipe.

If you want more power, deleting the mufflers may actually reduce usuable power due to the loss of back pressure. Power from exhaust tweaks is usually accomplished by first adding equal-length headers and to a lesser extent by the final free-flowing muffler.

My guess is it will be very loud, muscle-car sounding (think Mustang) and that you will experience drone, likely most noticeable at higher RPM's. Not a big deal in city driving, but mind-numbingly annoying on the highway. A lot if air-cooled 911 guys who do muffler deletes or add dual aftermarket exhaust complain a lot about drone. X pipes and H pipes can help eliminate it.

I would be worried that the Merc will really not like having the mufflers off the car. It it is a newer car, I am guessing there may be all kinds of engine management issues that could potentially arise.

Good luck and do more research. Trying perusing an enthusiast V8 forum for 'Vettes or mustangs. I am sure there is ton of exhaust talk going on over there.

Pour better off going down pipes and leaving mufflers stock. Trust me I know

You will lose power in the low end. I would suggest replacing the Oem muffler with a high performance muffler or a cat-back exhaust system.

Being new to this community what are the options for a cat back or any exhaust mod for that matter? Another thought that bothers me is do you have to cut the stock exhaust to add any of these cat backs or other exhaust mods? I have modded many cars myself but I'm very nervous to touch the exhaust on my 2011 E550. Truly I don't expect to get some major HP gains from the NA motor but I do want to hear her sing with that 5.5L voice!! I did do search's but just did not come up with many answers.

I am also looking into an after market exhaust and I want my V8 to sing as well. Meistershaft GTS sounds pretty nice and priced at around $1800 shipped. I was hoping we can get a group buy here so we can get it for lower price.

If you have a 2013 , you have the TT engine.
A cat back exhaust wont do much but add a little more power and more sound ( possible drone)
If you want some good power and a nice deep note , your best bet is downpipes and keeping the cat back stock.
The money you spend on a cat back will not be worth it . JMO =)
Good luck

I certainly don't want to hijack this thread but what about the 5.5L exhaust options. I did see the Meistershaft GTS but want like to see/hear some different options. I don't expect to pick up 20whp with the NA motor I just want to hear it!!

In youtube they have lots of vids on the Meisterschaft GTS and some vids on the E63. On the E63 W212, its a beast with that exhaust. Therefore, I am curious if our E550 would sound anything close to it. Even 75%, I would buy this exhaust. Nothing beats a V8 singing.

So is that two choices we have for a cat back? I understand the ability to go to a custom type exhaust shop, but that typically means cutting and welding and the possibility of loosing too much back pressure or raspiness because the shop doesn't know exactly how to make the 5.5L MB sing and or dance. I just wish there were more choices for a bolt on type cat back. My other thought is cutting the pipes on the exhaust has to affect the warranty and or the ability to sell the car with stock exhaust correct?

Delete your mufflers and delete resonator leave the cats in place. Install two 18 inch glass packs in the resonator location. You will be running a midsection muffler setup for about 300 buck and it will be mean. here is a link of an e500 with that setup. I do not know who the car belongs too.

That totally sounds like crap! The drone must be insane.

Buy some E63 mufflers and replace yours, it will make a world of difference.

It appears 2012 and up E550 bi-turbo V8 muffler delete is not as loud as 2010-2011 natural aspirated. Most likely because of the bi-turbo. But if you delete the reasonator too it may sound a bit louder.

Check out this thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...lete-vids.html.

I have done a muffler delete on 2013 E550. Sounds great. Not much or noticeable drone on highway - just subtle exhaust note. Doesn't sound anything like a Mustang - I would hate it if it did.

The only problem is that it is kinda too loud when cold start, but a bit louder than stock when warmed up.
