Engine temp warning + fan not turning on...looking for some help
I recently had a mishap where my car (2012 E350 Bluets) fell off the jack and it destroyed the radiator fan. I installed a new (used) fan fairly easily and thought everything was good but now it seems the fan is not turning on and the engine temp warning comes up on the dash.
The weird thing is that it seemed the fan worked at least one time, I definitely heard it spin up once after I shut the engine off (which normal on this car apparently) but now it is not kicking on.
Could it be that the fan is just bad? Or what is it that controls the fan...which sensor and could that have been damaged when the car fell?
Thanks for any help.

I was jacking the car up from the jack point in front of the engine under the car. The car slipped backward and fell while the jack stayed in the up position and hit the radiator fan breaking it.

It has several sensors. It will need to be checked with Star code reader at dealer or indie shop that has one.

Yes, the star code reader is much more exact and thorough. With it there is a lot less guessing. have you checked the fuse and all connections?

^Correct, because the jack may teeter at this location and fall away.

On mine, the hard plastic piece crushed and broke because I didn't have the jack on center, was more toward the front edge and the weight wasn't distributed evenly.
Buddy of mine that works at a shop checked it out and says it's the fan. Said he checked fuses and voltage and everything looks good, so has to be the fan. There were two error codes stored but unrelated, cleared those.
He also said the fan has to be programmed in? Something about setting it at certain percentage points (10% -90%)? Does that sound right?

Probably correct. I swear everything needs to be "programmed" on these damn cars. I'm surprised we don't need to program a new set of tires.

Ha! yes, but you can set the new psi range from the driver's seat, however you got me there!
