Should the light switch surround be illuminated?

Should the light switch surround be illuminated?
Just a quick question, the lightswitch on my E350 cab only has illumination on the actuator, not on the surround where the legend is. Is this intended behaviour?
Can someone look at theirs and confirm?
Cheers!

Hi Caesium,
On my 2010 Coupe, the light surround does not light up (showing the legend).
This has been the same on my previous two Mercedes too.
I always thought it was odd that it does not light up, since typically, I would like to see the legend at night not in daylight!
Hope that helps.

Just checked my 2011 E350 wagon. Only the switch itself lights. Not the surround.
It is really low level lighting as well. With the instrument illumination turned fully up - which I never do - it is not all that bright.
Hope that helps.

Sorry. I'm on a ski trip. My answer was to your direct question. As said this has been this way for years now. My '04 E was the same and I have always been perplexed as to why MB does this. At times I like to use the high beams manually and you need to move off the auto setting for this to work. Not being able to see the settings readily means you have to memorize the positions. I wish they were illuminated.

But the legend does get some light from the ambient lighting strip that is located very close above the switch.

One other point reading the replies. When it comes to headlights t is either in one of two positions. Vertical wherein the high beams only work on the flasher and one notch to the right which makes the high beamd fully functional. Parking lights which are commonly used in Europe but I do use them occasionally are easy to figure out when you need them.
