Star on grille too big?
Another thread caused me to think of this so I thought I would throw it out there.
Is the Star on the star grilles too big? Is it too ostentatious, especially for 21st century? Does any make have a badge as big or bigger?
Just wondering. And yes I realize my standing Star hood ornament is somewhat ostentatious, but it is not big.

grills & logos
By way of comparison, I would suggest that you look at the recent Audi and Lexus grills. They are certainly more in your face. Audi has larger logos than MB and Lexus is just plain ugly !
I realize that you are a traditionalist, which is fine by me. I like both versions of the E Class front end. But MB uses the star in the grill on so many different vehicles: semi-trailer trucks, mid-sized trucks, buses, Sprinter vans, sports cars and sedans.
If the huge preference for the star in the grill, as evidenced by the current sales of both C Class and E Class models, is any indication for the future, I would expect that the present 'Luxury' option with the traditional grill might soon become a relic of the past, except for the largest and most expensive sedan, the S Class.

About the badge, not the grille
Totally agree on Lexus spindle grilles. Interestingly, on some of the newer models, they have downsized the grille. They also have incorporated a wide bar/panel across the center connecting the two sides of the bumper cover. Bars are either body colored or black.
As for Audi, some of the four rings badges have gotten too big.

I was speaking of the badge on the grille, not the grille itself.

I like it either way and have had both. I like the star in the grill on the E350, since it has a sport sedan look. It probably would look out of place on an S-class sedan. I do like that "haters" cannot snap my star off the grill like they could off the hood . Unfortunately, I know people that's happened to.

Agree
I, for one, just love the little star sitting on top of the hood--where it belongs.. The star in the grill, at least to me, looks too much "in your face" on a sedan. Im a TRADITIONAL, understated elegance kind of guy, and only like to see the star in the grill on the SL and other sports cars, as used to be the tradition for all MB passenger cars--until they threw tradition under the bus. The star in the grill used to denote something special, something expensive and something truly sporty. Today, the star in the grill means pretty much nothing, unless , of course, if it's lighted--when it then means "LOOK at me! I have absolutely no taste!"

And, I find the hood mounted star to be a very helpful aid when pulling into my garage. I line it up with the cabinets in front of me and I park perfectly every time.
