50,000 mile warranty inspection
My 2012 is coming up on this mileage number and the dealer called me offering a free inspection of major systems that would not be covered once I roll over 50k.
Normally, I would be skeptical and think this is a way to get me in to the shop to pay for extra service I don't really need but they have always been exceedingly honest and fair.
Has anyone else had this done? Any lingering problems on my model I should be sure that they check?
If it is on the up and up - what great service!
As a side note, my car was afflicted with the interior wood trim/lack of UV protection and has faded badly. After 1 year on the waiting list the replacement interior has finally arrived and will be installed during this service.
I'm excited to have a brand new looking cabin :-). The MB tex and other surfaces look really good despite 3 years of pretty hard use.
I've owned several other higher-end brands including Porsche, Lexus and BMW but I have to say that I'm very impressed with my E350. MB is a great company that really stands behind their products.

You really waited a year for the replacement wood? I just purchased a used 2011 E350 about a month ago that was effected by the faded wood trim. I brought it in 2 weeks ago and the wood was replaced in less then a week. A year is absolutely absurd lol.

There is no reason to NOT take advantage of your MB dealer's offer of a "free inspection of major systems" BEFORE your car's warranty expires. Seems like a no brainer to me !

I agree. I escalated to upper management several times and they said that there was a huge backlog of customers affected with this problem and it is handled out of the main location. I did some searching in this forum and it seems that it is not that uncommon to wait for a long time for this repair. You did well to get it so soon. Enjoy your E350!

Just be sure to take their recommendations & findings with some skepticism. They could only do such an inspection with goal of making money. They call them stealerships for a reason.

the dealer is just going to check your car over.... if it is leaking or something is wrong that you don't know about wouldn't you rather them find it now and charge Mercedes for the work instead of you finding out at your next service outside of your warranty? the dealership is trying to make money off of Mercedes not you at this point. are they doing you a service because they are "nice?" probably not.. but it helps ya out and if they find anything they make money too. I say get it in there sir.

I never really had any bad experiences with these kind of inspections with previous Mercedes dealers.
Does anyone know if faded/defective wood trim would get replaced if the E class was out of warranty?

It's at no cost, so why not do it? Dealer probably will find something that could be done, but that is still your decision on whether or not to do it.
Won't you feel better when it rolls past 50,000 than if you don't do it and then worry every time you drive it?
Old adage: people regret the things they did not do more than the things they did do.

I got the same offer from BMW dealer before my 7 series hit the 4 yr mark.
Inspection came back with car being perfect, but service advisor recommended I take their "special" offers:
1. Fix body dings & dents for only $249 (normally $499) for one door & back panel.
2. Replace battery for $189.
3. Clean/clear headlights for $150
I said "Thanks" & went home.
1. Got Dent Dogs private company to fix dings for $99.
2. Went to Batteries Plus & replaced w/ factory brand battery for $99
3. Wiped headlights with few squirts of Windex, 10 cents.
Then bought 3 more years extended warranty...

My 2011 E350 4matic wagon came out of warranty in January at 56000 km on the 4 yr limit. They did the inspection for free. Nothing showed up.
I have concerns from reading posts on this site re transfer case bearings and transmission issues so I negotiated a good price on an extended warranty to 100,000 and 3 more years.
With the Slick I don't drive more than 15000 a year on this car so this will work to my advantage I hope. It's like life insurance. You bet the insurer you are going to die, they bet you won't and you hope they win.
Same here. They bet nothing will go wrong and I hope they win.
