Keyless Entry Programming - FOB - E550
The previous owner of my car gave me 2 key fobs.
One works and the other doesn't. I guess I could just change out the battery on the one that doesn't work to see if a dead battery is the issue, but before I do that, does anyone know how to program/re-program these things? If the battery is indeed at fault, will the remote just start working automatically if I pop a new battery in?
He got the fob with the car when he purchased it from the dealer. It's not one of those ebay purchases. At least, that is what he told me..

The key is programmed from the factory specific to your car and cannot be duplicated or re-programmed by a dealer. Does the diode below the PANIC button light up when you press a function button? If not, the battery is dead. Replace the battery and you should be all set.

I took a look at the second key fob when I got home last night. It looks different than the one I am using with the car. I guess the previous owner did give me an eBay one or whatever. Oh well.

Nice. They should have just said that the car only comes with one key. But then you wonder if the other key is always out there and can be used to take the car. You can get a replacement from the dealer if you need to. They will need to verify your ownership in person and then they will order you a new key. It is not cheap, however. Like $300 +/-. The dealer cannot produce or program a key. It comes from MB only, to protect your safety and security.
