iPod connectivity question

iPod connectivity question
Hello
A little puzzled and could really do with some help! I just bought a 2014 E Class E300 which, from using the iCommand interface had an option for 'media interface'. In the glovebox compartment I could see there was a media interface connector, so I bought a connector from Amazon and hoped that's all I'd need to do to be able to connect my iPod. Unfortunately it still shows as 'no device'. Shoudl all 2014 E Classes be iPod compatible? Have I missed something? Was it an optional extra? Any advice hugely appreciated.

What does the ipod do when you have it plugged in? They normally show a message that they are connected or that there is an issue. MB also has a compatibility website I think.
I found that my 2011 W212 is very picky about the cable. They are not all created equal. My car came with one that works so I know there is no issue with the cable or ipod. But then I ordered the manual for my car and that came with the cable supposedly compatible with my model year as a package deal. The cable looked the same but had a different part number printed on it. It did not work. The seller sent me another cable that matched the part number of the working cable and that one works as well. So just because it plugs in doesn't mean it's the right cable. I suggest looking up the exact part number to verify if you have the right cable. If the cable is correct, you could borrow an ipod or iphone to see if the issue is with yours.

Sorry to stomp on your thread... but I am having the same issue with my 2011 E350. I have had the car for while now and just switched from Android to iPhone 6S Plus. When connecting with the factory cable that came with the car and using an Apple brand lightning to 30 pin adapter All I get is "device incompatible". I also got a new Mercedes Command w/ Lightning cable... Same thing... "device incompatible".
Any suggestions why the iPhone 6S Plus is incompatible?

you have to upgrade the cable or the system itself to recognize the newer model iphones. simplest solution would be get an old model ipod (for $10 or something) with the 30 pin connector. sync it with your music and connect to the cable and leave it on your glove box. it charges it as well. now your iphone can connect via bluetooth for your calls so yeah...happy days! thats what i did with all my mercs.

Had the upgrade done to the Command system, used the recommended cable and it recognized the iPhone 6S Plus. I was disappointed that it didn't display the album covers like the newer Command systems do when connected to iPhone or iPod. I also noticed the display had issues keeping up with what album, artist and song when changing songs. The bluetooth connection doesn't have this issue with iTunes or Spotify. There also wasn't a difference in sound quality between direct connect and bluetooth to my surprise. So... I decided to skip the $120 cable and 30 pin connector cost and stick with bluetooth only. Thanks for the replies.

I use my old 3GS for music and my 6 Plus for bluetooth.

I think it is a cable issue. There was a package of cables that came with the 2011s including one compatible with iPod and iPhone up to the 4s. My 5 played ok with the USB lightening plugged into the USB Cable that went into a cable with USB on one end and the MB glove box connector on the other.
